About Camp Bette Perot: Camp Bette Perot, our equestrian camp near Palestine, TX, offers weekend camping for girls ages 5-18 with their troops or families. We serve approximately 200 campers per week from a variety of racial/ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. Staff primarily work Saturdays and Sundays, with some Friday work available. Fall season runs September through December. Spring season runs January through May. Job summary: Kitchen Crew prepare food, serve, clean up, support the dining environment, and provide excellent customer service. There may be opportunities to assist with outdoor activities or general camp operations also. Paid kitchen training can be provided. Expectations:
  • Willingness to be active outdoors in variable weather conditions all year, including walking around camp on uneven terrain
  • Willingness to work in a camp setting with exposure to wildlife, including bugs, spiders, and snakes.
Primary responsibilities include:
  • Champion a positive, inclusive, caring, safe, and fun camp environment and promote the values of the Girl Scout Promise and Law, including serving as a positive role model for youth in language, dress, culture of inclusion, behavior, and attitude.
  • Work in a team with other camp staff for effective meal service, including preparing, serving, and cleaning up. Complete camp support tasks as assigned, such as organizing, inventorying, assembling, tidying, and more.
  • Facilitate positive group experiences in the camp setting, including advocating for camper responsibility, challenge seeking, teamwork, learning, goal setting, and opportunities for personal and group success.
  • Adhere to camp schedule and direct campers and self to assigned spaces on time.
  • Assist in care of campsite facilities, equipment, and supplies, including managing resources wisely.
  • Practice all camp safety standards and emergency procedures and uphold them with others.
  • Work independently and take initiative to implement solutions to problems that arise, where appropriate.
  • Work effectively with various team members and various levels of the GSNETX organization, including promoting a climate of courtesy, respect, and professionalism and adhering to camp culture.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
QualificationsMinimum requirements:
  • Maintain skills and certifications to support activities offered at camp (training will be provided).
  • Willingness to be active indoors and outdoors in variable weather conditions all day (heat, cold, rain, humidity, wind, snow) and to walk extensively around camp.
  • Willingness to work respectfully and fruitfully with diverse staff and campers all day.
  • Willingness to role model respect, positivity, smiling, cheerfulness, kindness, patience, honesty, inclusion, good mental hygiene, and accountability and to self-regulate emotions respectfully in a variety of circumstances.
  • Willingness to listen to, learn from, and cooperate with others.
  • Willingness to abstain from use of tobacco products, herbal intoxicants (CBD, THC, gummies, etc.), vaping and electronic cigarettes, alcohol, illegal drugs, firearms, and fireworks while on camp property or while on duty, plus abstain from possessing on camp property and from returning to camp under the influence of any such substances.
  • Demonstrate and promote a climate of courtesy, respect and professionalism to coworkers, the volunteers served by this council, and others with whom this job puts them in contact.

  • Attendance is an essential job requirement defined as having regular, consistent, reliable, punctual and predictable attendance including the ability to work regular hours and shifts, before and after hours, and on weekends, when required.
  • Must complete and pass a criminal background check.
Preferred qualifications:
  • Experience serving youth in a work or volunteer setting.
  • Experience participating in outdoor activities or working in a commercial kitchen.
  • Current certifications appreciated in any of the following: first aid and CPR, lifeguarding, challenge course, archery, or fishing.
