Job Title:Kitchen Production Worker (Short-Term Hire)Physical Location:Twinsburg/Geauga CampusesSalary:$14.02 hourlyThis position is a short-term hire starting 8/16/2024 - 12/15/2024Basic Function:Assists with operating assigned food service location(s) by fulfilling both front and back of house operations. Prepares and presents various hot and cold foods and works designated food station for functions and events. Reports to Food Service Manager, Executive Chef, or designated supervisor.Additional Basic Function - if applicable:Examples of Duties:Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following:Prepares hot foods (i.e., cooks, grills, toasts, fries) and cold food (i.e., salads, sandwiches, desserts) according to recipes and observes proper food handling and sanitation procedures.Maintains cleanliness and sanitation of work and kitchen areas (i.e., sweeps, cleans and sanitizes, empties trash, operates dishwashing machine).Garnishes plates and serving platters and prepares food for presentationWorks designated food station during meals and special events, including setup and tear down.May shelve and inventory supplies and stock.May train and direct student or temporary employees; may participate in training new employees.Performs cashiering duties as needed.Performs related duties as required.Additional Examples of Duties - if applicable:Minimum Qualifications:Required Education and Experience: A minimum of two years of kitchen experience in a full-service restaurant or similar setting preparing hot and cold foods. Must be able to work varied hours and shifts to include evenings, weekends, and holidays.License/Certification:Must acquire the Ohio Department of Health's Level Two certification in Food Protection during the employee's probationary period.Knowledge Of:Culinary terminology and techniquesCulinary terminologySkill In:CookingOperating a variety of kitchen equipment and utensilsCustomer serviceAbility To:Read, write, and accurately follow oral and written instructions to include recipes and menusApply sanitation standards and safety practicesPerform basic mathematics (e.g., add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, fractions, and decimals, and calculate percentages)Maintain accurate recordsCommunicate with University personnel and public (e.g., to exchange information regarding functions and eventsMulti-task and respond to needs to support food service area, unit, or eventDemonstrate physical dexterity and lift 50 poundsPreferred Qualifications - if applicable:Assessments:Asterisk (*) indicates knowledge, skills, abilities which require assessmentsWorking Conditions / Physical Requirements:Food production environment; exposed to cooking utensils and equipment; exposed to steam and moisture for extended periods of time, expected to work with food and food scraps in the course of performing duties; requires occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds; standing for extended periods of time; may work varied hours and shifts to include evenings, weekends, and holidays.Working Schedule:Additional Information:Disclaimer:Kent State University is committed to the creation and nurturing of a diverse community of individuals through inclusive excellence.
