Job Summary
The Lab Assistant is responsible for supporting laboratory operations by performing phlebotomy on patients, maintaining lab equipment, processing of specimens, performing tests and quality control, and ensuring the lab safety protocols are followed. This role reports to the lab leader.
What you will do
* Perform venipuncture and capillary puncture on adult, neonatal and pediatric patients according to established protocol. Identifies and labels specimens. Assists in care of patient prior to, during, and after collection.
* Check-in patients and verify that all necessary information is accurate and complete while processing the test orders in the computer system, utilizing both Epic and Laboratory Information System according to laboratory protocol.
* Instruct patients in all urine, stool, and other bodily fluid collection procedures and testing requirements and obtain and process urine specimen for drug screening.
* Prepares equipment to efficiently collect blood products and cleans and maintains equipment in work area. Inventories supplies for re-order, and routinely stock supplies.
* Answer telephones, maintain logs, create files, maintain inventories of supplies. Order entry in the laboratory information system.
Education Qualifications
* High School Diploma and/or GED Required

* Ability to become and maintain proficiency in the computer systems.
* Excellent communication skills with internal and external customers of the lab. Communicate in a manner that promotes clinic and laboratory professionalism as well as a comfortable experience for the patient.
* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
* Ability to work under pressure and maintain high level of accuracy.
* Ability to follow detailed instructions, appropriately prioritize tasks, and hold strong problem-solving skills.
* Ability to learn and interpret state and federal laws and regulations and stay updated with federal regulatory changes.
* Knowledge of all routine container and minimum volumes required for specimen collection.
* Ability to answer the telephone in a pleasant, timely and helpful manner
Licenses and Certifications
* CPR/Basic Life support for Healthcare Providers certification from approved program Required
