Performs activities and other tasks as necessary in a laboratory environment. Records observations and measurements and reports results. Responsible for cleaning, disinfecting, and maintaining cleanrooms and equipment. Assists with receipt and inspection of raw materials for testing, and ordering and stocking of materials and equipment. High School diploma or equivalent and no experience.

Each employee is expected to complete daily tasks in a timely manner. As daily tasks change, be able to modify without hesitation to complete patient care. Verify the draw room and pathology temperatures are in range. Check the box for outside samples. Check off supplies as they come into the laboratory. Stock draw room (Cabinets, Drawers, Carts when in use). Wipe down chairs and Counters in the draw room. Check supply of sharps containers for carts, if less than 2 (call environmental services to restock).

Core Laboratory tasks are required to be completed when patient volumes are high. Each laboratory assistant will be able to fluidly function working in the front office, Phlebotomist stations and in the CORE laboratory. The CORE laboratory functions will require the knowledge, competency testing through API evaluation site and results of waived testing. The waived testing that will be completed are as follows: Rapid COVID-19 antigen test, Rapid antigen testing, Point of Care Glucose/Beta Ketones testing, Clinitek Urine dipstick, Culture Set-ups (exception of Spinal Fluid), and Whole Blood testing.

The Laboratory Assistant is able to complete minimal moderate complexity testing and they will also be responsible in maintaining Knowledge, Competency testing through API evaluation site and resulting of these tests. The moderate complexity testing are as follows: Rapid COVID-19 PCR testing, Urinalysis testing of all negative results without microscopic, Triage D-Dimer testing. Has knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Works under immediate supervision. Typically reports to a Lead, Laboratory Supervisor or Manager.
