Fulgent has state-of-the-art clinical, sequencing, and bioinformatics tools, including the latest Illumina sequencers such as the NovaSeq.SUMMARY OF POSITION:The Lab Automation Specialist will support the Fulgent Research & Development Team with automated solutions for workflows in our state-of-the-art NGS laboratory. The LAS will develop, test, and support automation for new genomic applications, quality control, quantification, and data generation. The LAS will communicate and collaborate with instrument vendors to develop new automation methods and troubleshoot current protocols. KEY JOB ELEMENTS:
  • Working closely with R&D to develop, test, and support automated solutions for workflows in a molecular genetic lab.
  • Operating and troubleshooting the liquid handler and other key instruments and workflows.
  • Designing, programming, and simulating new methods on automated liquid handler systems or related instruments.
  • Communicating and cooperating with instrument vendors for method development and troubleshooting.
  • Training and providing ongoing support to end-users of automated workflows in Fulgent Labs.
  • Performing routine instrument accuracy and precision checks.
  • Managing instrument maintenance procedures and records.
  • Performing production tests as needed.
QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS:KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE:
  • BS degree in Biomedical Engineering, Biological Sciences, Industrial/Process Engineering, or Microfluidics with 3-5 years or MS with 2-4 years of relevant academic or industry experience.
  • Molecular biology lab experience is a plus.
  • Operational experience with lab automation systems is required.
  • Experience with programming liquid handlers (e.g. Tecan, Hamilton) is preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with integrating liquid handlers, robotic arms, plate readers, or plate washers into fully automated systems.
  • Experience in converting manually conducted assays or protocols into automated methods.
  • Experience with integration of laboratory equipment to laboratory information systems (LIMS).
  • Knowledge of basic scientific principles in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, and genetics.
  • Demonstrable good understanding of basic mechanical and electronic principles.
  • Meticulous, patient, and organized with excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be a motivated, self-directed individual who can complete projects in a collaborative team-oriented setting.
