Laboratories are located on both the Minneapolis and St. Paul campuses and and provide services on an inpatient and outpatient basis. Disciplines include Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, Virology, Serology, Blood Bank, Immunology/Flow Cytometry, Histology and Pathology.Position SummaryPerforms blood collections in a safe, accurate and professional manner on all age groups and degrees of difficulty. Monitors patients for unexpected reactions and responds to emergency situations as required. Identifies, troubleshoots and resolves problems. Provides a variety of other services including but not limited to answering the telephone, customer service, scanning manual orders, glucose tolerance collection, sweat chloride collection, and waived laboratory testing. Responsible for specimen receipt, assessment, and pre-analytical processing services per written policies and procedures. Enters information and test orders into the laboratory computer system. Interacts with all patients, their families and employees in a pleasant, efficient and cooperative manner, exhibiting sensitivity to cultural differences.Both Mpls and St. Paul campuseVarious start times (M-F: 0500, 0530, 0800, and 0900) and Saturday and Sunday (0500, 0530)Every third weekend1.0 FTEQualifications: License/Certification/Registration:*Phlebotomy certificate/license is not required, but preferred. Education:Required: *High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree preferred.*Three hours of continuing education that are specific to phlebotomy and/or specimen processing. Experience: Preferred:*Experience as a phlebotomist or specimen processing tech in a hospital setting. *1-year pediatric phlebotomy experience and/or one year of experience in a pediatric clinical laboratory setting, and/or graduation from an accredited medical assistant or phlebotomy program. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: *Collects specimens using knowledge of laboratory techniques.*Strong attention to detail and accuracy.*Ability to work in a fast paced environment to meet established turnaround times.*Possesses outstanding professional and positive customer service skills.*Must have excellent problem solving and follow-up skills.*Experience with healthcare computer information systems.*Solid knowledge of medical terminology.*Must be highly organized, efficient, and multifunctional, work independently and within a team.*Demonstrates forward thinking approach, continually looking for ways to improve processes, tools and resources to best serve the healthcare team and clients.*Ability to manage challenging situations in providing services to patients and families.*Ability to adapt, learn new skills, communicate effectively, and cope with stressful work situations. The posted pay range represents rates for a grouping of multiple jobs within a salary grade. We carefully consider a wide range of factors including but not limited to market indicators for the specific role, the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate, and organizational needs.
