Wistar's dynamic environment supports the advancement of discoveries that will change the future of human health.The Wistar Institute has an opening for a Research Assistant in the laboratory of Dr. Daniel Claiborne to perform a wide variety of laboratory tasks and experiments, including genetic engineering of Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR) T cells, mammalian cell culture, and in vivo testing of CAR T cell therapies directed against HIV and blood cancers in humanized mice. The Claiborne laboratory focuses on understanding the determinants of successful T cell therapies in the context of chronic viral infections (such as HIV) and malignancies. The lab uses an in vivo model system of HIV infection in humanized mice, coupled with CAR T cells directed against HIV, to study T cell dysfunction and exhaustion under settings of chronic antigen exposure.A bachelor's degree in a science-related field (or equivalent experience) is required. The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional communications skills as they will be trained by and work directly with the PI, as well as exhibit a keen enthusiasm for scientific inquiry. Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience in mammalian cell culture techniques and assays.
