Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.Responsibilities:Under the supervision of the section supervisor and with specific direction from the lead tech, this position has primary responsibility for pre-analytical processing of patient specimens and ensuring the non-licensed technical work in the Flow Cytometry lab is performed. Exercises moderate skill, judgement and a knowledge of the terminology and procedures and practices of Medical Technology in the Flow Cytometry laboratory. This responsibility will include handling specimens so that integrity is maintained, accessioning specimens, couriering specimens and biopsy supplies within SMH, providing ancillary support during marrow biopsy procedures, and general clinical tasks. In addition, this individual will support the licensed technical staff by maintaining inventory levels, monitoring and recording temperatures, performing weekly maintenance and additional clerical duties as needed.JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:Accessions specimens using SoftLab and SoftPathData entry using SoftLab and SoftPath LIS systemsUses advanced knowledge of specimen requirements and stability and knowledge of test menu to prioritize handling of stat/urgent specimens and those needing special handing.Works with a variety of health care providers to troubleshoot problem specimens and to clarify correct test selection. Provides problem resolution for sample handling: missing information, split samples, sample retrievals, misdirected samples, and requests for additional samples. Independently follows up on all problems and discrepancies as needed.Provides ancillary support during marrow biopsy proceduresMaintains and performs inventory counts of laboratory supplies, reagents and ensures appropriate levels of stock, places orders for inventory when necessary.Maintain list of items routinely used including catalog number, current pricing and shippable numbers. Follow up on order discrepancies and problems, including correction of vendor errors, backorder resolution, price changes and discontinued items.Labeling and aliquoiting antibodiesMay deliver specimens and biopsy supplies within SMHParticipates in general rotation of assigned tasks that ensure cleanliness of analytical and preparative parts of the laboratoryPerforms weekly maintenance such as changing water, bleach, scrape freezer, etc.Monitors, maintains and records temperatures.
