Position Summary: Supports the laboratory environment by performing various functions which include, but are not limited to, responding to incoming telephone calls, reporting test results and test information. At Proctor campus, the CSR is required to arrive patients in EPIC, register specimens, order tests, label specimens, and check specimen integrity. The Procurement specialist has the primary responsibility of assuring proper procurement of specimens for clinical testing. This may include collection, transportation, ordering, labeling, and processing of specimens as well as other support duties as required or assigned. Qualifications: SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE The ability to organize work and handle multiple tasks simultaneously is a must for this position.Attention to detail, timeliness, and a team approach attitude is required.Communication Skills:Ability to respond appropriately to customer/co-workerInteraction with a wide variety of peopleMaintain confidential informationAbility to communicate only the facts to recipients or to decline to reveal informationAbility to project a professional, friendly, helpful demeanorComputer Skills:Basic computer knowledge: Uses word processing, spreadsheet, e-mail application, and web browser.   • Promptly and efficiently responds to incoming telephone calls, patients, visitors, and medical center staff in a professional mannerDoes not leave the phones or the Customer Service area unattended ensuring calls do not routinely transfer to the technical area.Answers calls in a professional manner, using department designated script.Consistently handles requests for specimen transport or supplies with minimal errors.Accurately records messages and communicates them in a timely manner.Responds to customer complaints in a courteous manner and refers them to the appropriate person(s).Courteously responds to customers at the reception desk as soon as possible. Follows through to assure prompt and accurate serviceHandles incoming calls as completely as possible; transfers a minimum number of calls.Notifies customers of delays and wait times.Greets patients in a friendly and welcoming manorResponsible for the reporting, generation and transmission of laboratory reports. Transmission may include verbal reporting, electronic reporting, and/or delivery via courier or mail servicePerforms requested call backs and fax functions several times throughout shift (at least every 2 hours).Retains confirmation log of all faxed results.Responds to customer requests for faxed results in a timely manner and in compliance with HIPAAUses cover sheets when manually faxing to customers outside of the medical center.Accurately and courteously reports all results to customers who request patient results.Obtains signed release of information form Prior to releasing results to patient.Perform clerical and support functions as required or as assignedStocks printers and faxes with correct paper.Stocks office forms and envelopes.Monitors inventory and notifies appropriate person to order custom forms when inventory is lowMaintains laser printers and faxes by changing toner cartridges, cleaning, calling for repairs, etc.Recycles toner cartridges.Processes verbal authorization forms for compliance according to established procedures.Accurately performs tasks and maintains records for quality improvement.Accurately scans outpatient orders, verbal authorization forms, hospital registration forms, etc. in a timely manner.Prioritizes work in an efficient manner.Keeps work are clean and neat.Responds to all requests by all customers as timely as possible.Responds in a positive way when new opportunities present themselves.Attends required training updates on computer system, insurance updates, and patient registration updatesWillingness and ability to train and support peers and new employees, Practices service always behaviors with other staff members. Correctly identifies and registers patients based on the information providedCorrectly identifies and maintains competency on insurance plans.Accurately enters necessary registration, medical, financial and demographic information for Laboratory Reference Patients received from outside clients.Consistently processes and enters all eligibility responses in Epic.Accurately enters orders in EPIC for testing to be done.Accurately releases orders from Epic.When following up with a client and/or patient, all FOCUS values are demonstrated.Discusses ABN options with patientsAccurately associates Diagnosis codesAccurately labels samplesRecognizes the need for techs to draw and requests assistanceNotifies Phlebotomy of statsRejects specimens or alerts Techs to specimens that do not meet criteriaEducate patients on specimen collection requirements (stool, semen, 24-hour urine).
  • Contributes to quality patient care by performing accurate and timely collection and transport of clinical specimens by utilizing established procedures.Identifies patients using proper procedures prior to specimen collection.Follows proper procedure in collection of specimens by venipuncture and micro-collection.Accurately and legibly labels specimens collected, initialing label.Collects quality specimens as assessed by low rejection rate.E
