Location:Medical Center - Fort WorthDepartment:Lab-AdmininistrationShift:Third Shift (United States of America)Standard Weekly Hours:36Summary:The Laboratory Phlebotomist performs positive patient identification and collection of various laboratory specimens on inpatients and outpatients as needed. Receives specimens into the lab reception area, inputs specimen information into the laboratory information system and requests patient registration as necessary. Phlebotomists maintain specimen integrity during specimen collection, transport, and processing of samples received in the laboratory. Communicates specimen issues to caregivers. Provides customer service by greeting visitors, answering the telephone, transferring phone calls, faxing results, and assisting with specimen requirements. Performs other clerical or clinical duties as required by area of service. Patients served at Cook Children's range in age from newborn through the adolescent period. Every effort will be made to collect specimens in the least traumatic manner to both child and family, to include attention to age-appropriate child life issues and pain management techniques. Additionally, adults are occasionally served. Specific instructions appear in the procedure manuals. All Laboratory personnel are required to follow Cook Children's Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct, and the Clinical Laboratory Compliance Plan. Laboratory and Corporate Compliance, as outlined by the OIG and HCFA is an important aspect of our laboratory's environment, and each employee is expected to be knowledgeable of, and behave in accordance with the Laboratory and Cook Children's Compliance Plans.
