- Supervises operations of Veterinary Technology Lab by setting priorities and enforcing regulations, internal policies and procedures related to Animal Care and Lab Prep
- Develops materials and maintains lab equipment for instruction, demonstration and general laboratory use
- Assures all laboratory equipment and instrumentations are functioning properly and coordinates maintenance or repair as needed
- Selects, hires, trains, coaches, develops, and manages the performance of assigned staff
- Works collaboratively to plan, organize and implement procedures required to effectively operate the laboratory and maintain a high level of customer satisfaction
- In collaboration with Program Director monitors unit workload to ensure equity and appropriate use of financial resources
- Collaborates with Program Director to manage operational needs and monitors and controls expenses related to Animal Care within the budget
- Collaborates with College-wide committee(s) of peers to update and review lab safety guidelines and rules
- Reviews weekly inventory of supplies and orders as necessary
- Researches and evaluates new equipment for purchase decisions
- Assures that all personnel are following safety protocol in compliance with local/state/federal regulatory requirements, particularly while experiments are in progress
- Maintains accurate, and up to date Safety Data Sheets (SDS) in appropriate data bases as specified by the Compliance and Risk Management department
- Collaboratively assists faculty regarding laboratory preparations
- Collaborates with department personnel and faculty to coordinate and optimize laboratory facilities
- Performs other duties as assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONSEDUCATIONAND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING
- Associate Degree of Applied Science in Veterinary or Animal Health Technology
- Registration or eligibility for registration as a Registered Veterinary Technician in Ohio
- Two (2) years of experience caring for animals
- Clinical experience/skills
- Demonstrated experience supervising, planning, assigning, scheduling and ensuring the quality of the work of others
- Demonstrated experience making sound decisions that affect a work unit or team
- Demonstrated experience in a role requiring diverse problem solving methods in a variety of situations

- Possess working knowledge of animal care in the clinical setting concepts, practices, and procedures with the ability to use in varied situations as it pertains to the departmental focus

- Previous experience as support for a Veterinary Technology Program

- The work is performed in laboratory environment; similar to that of a veterinary clinic.
- May require strong animal handling such as being able to deal with animals when they are stressed, ill or in pain
- The work area is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated;
- The employee may sit comfortably to perform the duties of the job and may perform repetitive motions with hands/fingers using a computer mouse and keyboard to type. However, there will be walking; standing; bending; stooping; climbing stairs and ladders; and carrying of various items and equipment;
- Work may also require walking and standing in conjunction with travel to and attendance at meetings and conferences away from the worksite
