Tesla is looking for highly motivated laboratory technicians to perform routine quality testing and support failure analysis processes for our cutting-edge Tesla battery cell manufacturing program. In this role you would work closely with other lab techs under the guidance of lab management to perform material analysis with the highest standards of safety, quality, and output. The work environment is demanding, fast-paced and incredibly exciting. The ideal candidate should be ready to push their limits, as they join in highly motivated and capable team.
Responsibilities - Work with a team of materials scientists, engineers, chemists, and technicians performing routine quality and failure analysis testing in a 24x7 cell manufacturing quality laboratory
- Perform a variety of routine testing on battery cells and associated materials following established procedures including: Chemical properties of raw materials such as electrolyte composition, acid and moisture content, Visual microscope-assisted inspections, Mechanical properties testing including tensile strength and elongation, particle size distribution, compressibility, moisture content and other powder properties
- Interpret test data and generate laboratory test reports
- Perform preventative maintenance on equipment as required
- Enforce 5S and workplace hygiene standards
- Support the Company's mission, vision, values and goals in performance of daily activities
- Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs
Requirements - 2+ years' experience working in a quality or chemical analysis laboratory with demonstrated expertise in physical materials analysis and associated quality controls
- Previous experience with the operation and interpretation of materials analysis equipment including: Powder Rheometers, Instron mechanical test systems, KF moisture analyzers, GC- (MS/FID/TCD), ICP-OES, Acid-Base titrators and scanning electron microscopes, DMA, and DSC
- Detail oriented, excels at performing repetitive tasks where both high degrees of accuracy and precision are required with strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel
- Comfortable working with chemicals and hazardous materials in a laboratory environment
- Be both capable and willing to perform all the various manual tasks involved with lab work, such as safely moving objects up to 20 lbs, moving large pallets with a pallet jack, handling incoming materials, etc.
- Bachelor's Degree preferred in a relevant science (e.g. Chemistry, Metallurgy, etc.), or equivalent experience
- Experience of measurement system analysis, gage calibration and instrument maintenance
