This seasonal, part-time position offers flexible hours ranging from 14 to 30 hours per week on weekdays. As a Lab Animal Technician, you will play a vital role in maintaining the health and well-being of research animals, including mice, rats, and frogs, while supporting the operation and administration of our animal care facility. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about animal care and laboratory operations. Position Responsibilities
- In the Lab Animal Technician role, you will use existing SOPs and quality assurance standards to perform general housekeeping, as well as maintain facility equipment and perform routine preventative maintenance on cage wash and autoclaves.
- Job duties also include sanitizing, maintain, and repair animal caging materials as needed in rooms and in cage wash.
- Other duties will include to ensure CW and animal holding rooms are kept clean and in an organized manner.
- Tasks may include assisting with the receipt, stocking, and maintenance of supply inventories; as well as preparing and submitting required written records, charts, logs, and inventories.
- This position you will also be required to provide support in animal care where you will monitor daily and welfare while performing health observations, and basic animal husbandry duties to include providing food/water, cage changes, as well as recording health concerns.
- In addition, you may also receive, inspect, and put away incoming animals; and may be involved in breeding and weaning procedures.
- Occasion holiday and weekend work may be required.
- Must be able to communicate with other technicians and investigative staff about any mechanical or animal Welfare issues
Position RequirementsEDUCATION:
- High school diploma is required, Registered Assistant Laboratory Animal Care Technician is preferred but not required
EXPERIENCE:
- Six months of relevant work experience is preferred but not required.
SKILLS:
- Must be able to work efficiently and independently in both clean and dirty cage wash areas as well as working in animal rooms.
- Must be able to follow detail instructions and concrete routines.
- Must also be able to sanitize rooms, racks, sterilize and use autoclaves.
- Strong attention to detail and quality control is required.
- Time management skills and effective oral communication skills are also required.
- Must have Drivers license
- Must be able to operate cage washers, autoclaves, and other disinfecting/sterilizing equipment.
- Must be able to work with or around laboratory animals
- Must be able to restrain a lab animal.
- Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds.
