The main function of a chemical technician is to conduct chemical and physical laboratory tests to assist scientists in making qualitative and quantitative analyses of solids, liquids, and gaseous materials. A typical chemical technician is either a research technician who works in an experimental lab or a process control technician who works in a manufacturing setting. The research technician focuses on research and development, collects samples, and produces compounds. The process control technician focuses on quality assurance and production processes.

Responsibilities

+ Conduct chemical and physical laboratory tests.

+ Assist scientists in qualitative and quantitative analyses of materials.

+ Work with hydrocarbon-based chemistry, fuels, and oils.

+ Use and maintain lab equipment.

+ Devise and execute experiments.

+ Follow directions provided by professionals.

+ Record the findings of analyses.

+ Communicate results accurately and quickly.

Essential Skills

+ Proficiency in chemistry and quality control.

+ Comfortable working hands-on with chemicals and specialized equipment such as chromatography and spectroscopy.

+ Experience with computerized tools and instruments, including software.

+ Strong communication skills.

+ Detail-oriented with meticulous attention to procedure and directions.

+ Analytical skills for data mining and understanding generated data.

+ Organized to systematically manage work and workspace.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

+ BS in Chemistry or a related field.

+ Lab experience, open to new graduates.

+ Experience with additives screening tools is a plus.

Work Environment

The first 30 days involve a high-level overview, including shadowing an experienced technician, hands-on training, and additives technology training. The dress code is business casual. Standard working hours are from 8 am to 5 pm, with possible adjustments based on need.
