Job Summary

Supervise, coordinate and participate in activities of the lab and/or lab employees of an assigned unit, ensuring that the collection and preparation of specimens as well as the filing and reporting of lab results are carried out in an efficient and effective manner.

Responsibilities

* Supervise and coordinate the activities of Lab employees assigned to a specific unit.

* Train personnel in assigned areas.

* Make recommendations to the Lab Area Operations Manager concerning progress of employees, staff, and equipment needs and hiring and suspending of employees.

* Perform Quality Control procedures as directed.

* Assist in the preparation of schedules and time sheets.

* Maintain an adequate inventory of supplies necessary for daily operation of unit.

* Prepare and evaluate procedures for all tests performed in a section when assigned to a specific unit.

* Day-to-day supervision or oversight of lab operations and personnel performing tests and reporting test results.

* Assuring that all remedial actions are taken when test systems deviate from the lab's established performance specifications.

* Ensuring that patient test results are not reported until all corrective actions have been taken and the test system is properly functioning.

* Providing orientation to all testing personnel.

* Evaluating and documenting the performance of all testing personnel annually.

* Has been evaluated against CLIA-88 requirements and is qualified to perform all duties and responsibilities for this position.

* Must be accessible to testing personnel at all times testing is performed, to provide on-site, telephone, or electronic consultation to resolve technical problems in accordance with policies and procedures established either by the laboratory director or technical supervisor.

* Providing day-to-day supervision of high complexity test performance by a testing personnel qualified under the CLIA standard for high complexity testing personnel.

* Monitoring test analyses and specimen examinations to ensure that acceptable levels of analytic performance are maintained.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment or care as defined by the department's identified patient ages. Specifically the employee must be able to demonstrate competency in: 1) ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs; 2) knowledge of growth and development; and 3) understanding of the range of treatment needed by the patients.

Competency Statement

Must demonstrate competency through an initial orientation and ongoing competency validation to independently perform tasks and additional duties as specified in the job description and the unit/department specific competency checklist.

Education

* Associate's Degree (Required) Experience: 4 years technical experience, one of which must have been in each discipline within the applicable designated area

* Bachelor's Degree
