Position SummaryThe Lab Assistant I performs three roles in the function of the Laboratory: 1) Lab customer service and charge entry, 2) phlebotomy and specimen collection, 3) order entry/specimen processing. Adheres to hospital policies and procedures including but not limited to safety, fire, disaster plans, and infection controlQualifications/ExperienceEducation: High school graduate or equivalent required. High school graduate or equivalent required. A phlebotomy certification from an accredited phlebotomy is required.Experience: Clerical experience in medical setting, knowledge of medical terminology, and phlebotomy experience preferred. Observe professional ethics in maintaining confidential information acquired regarding person, financial, medical or employment of patients, families, and employees of SARH.Must follow and enforce accepted safety practices for patients and SARH.Must report hazards and initiate appropriate action.Must participate in safety instructional programs.Receives referred specimens or specimens directly from patients and performs complex qualitative and quantitative analysis accurately 100% of the time.Performs required tests according to established procedures and methodologies 100% of the time.Completes reports for test performed and ensures quality control criteria are met 100% of the time before reports are issued.Documents all quality control and maintains required records 100% of the time.Troubleshoots all equipment within the laboratory and ensures equipment is in good working order before reporting results 100% of the time.Advises and assists in the training of other personnel when required.Prepares reagents according to established protocols 100% of the time.Assists Director or Phlebotomist with their duties when necessary.Performs quality control procedures and maintains records 100% of the time.Assist Laboratory Director in Performance Improvement goals.Coordinates work to achieve maximum productivity 95% of the time.Completes testing within expected time guidelines 95% of the time.Performs duties with little or no supervision 98% of the time.Protects confidentiality of information 100% of the time.Performs proper charging and filing of lab work/recordsAssists technologists and supervisors with general administrative functionsPerforms and documents routine Quality Maintenance, Preventative Maintenance, and Quality Assurance. Discrepancies are identified and resolved.
