Summary:

Our award-winning client is seeking a Labor Affairs Specialist to join their team. As a Labor Affairs Specialist, you'll play a pivotal role in fostering positive relationships with employees and unions, ensuring compliance with labor regulations, and promoting a fair and equitable workplace.

Responsibilities:

  • Foster productive relationships with UAW, salaried, and hourly employees. Lead CBA negotiations and processes.

  • Create and maintain policies for consistent employee treatment and engagement.

  • Engage in problem-solving to improve HD processes. Train management on company and plant policies, including the CBA.

  • Investigate and resolve employee issues, manage local labor contracts, and lead grievance review and resolution.

  • Provide expert advice on labor and employee relations matters, including grievance and arbitration procedures.

  • Analyze turnover and absenteeism data and develop action plans for labor stability.

  • Stay updated on employee and labor relations trends and legal changes. Conduct research for contract negotiations and employee relations.

  • Partner with regional labor on negotiation strategies aligned with company mission and values. Monitor employment and labor trends and advise management on emerging issues.

  • Provide guidance to the local employee relations team on various employee matters.

  • Collaborate with regional labor on rightsizing and downsizing actions and validate termination processes.

  • Maintain open communication with UAW local representatives.

  • Offer advice and assistance regarding statutes, regulations, and contracts.

  • Develop and implement strategies to maintain a union-free environment in designated facilities.

  • Foster relationships with local government, chambers, and union leaders.

  • Collaborate with talent acquisition to minimize labor risk.

  • Audit policies and labor contracts for compliance with local laws.

  • Promote a positive labor environment and employee engagement.

  • Conduct investigations related to transparency lines and ensure proper documentation.

  • Administer FMLA and medical leaves in compliance with federal guidelines.

  • Verify payroll entries and report discrepancies.

  • Maintain and distribute current employee information, policy manuals, and KPI tracking reports.

  • Oversee EEO and Affirmative Action programs.

  • Manage employee onboarding, related training, hiring, and turnover data.

  • Ensure fair treatment of employees in disciplinary hearings.

  • Respond to internal customer questions and concerns promptly.

Required Qualifications:

  • PHR or SHRM CP Certification preferred.

  • Bachelor's degree in HR or related field.

  • Minimum 3-5 years of HR experience in a manufacturing setting, or 5-10 years of general HR experience.

  • FMLA and Medical Leave Administration experience are required.

  • Knowledge of state and federal laws is required.

  • Benefits and payroll knowledge are required.

  • 3-5 years of HR experience in a unionized manufacturing setting preferred.
