We are looking for a Labor Relations Manager to join Kaiser Aluminum Warrick Operations in Newburgh, Indiana!

The Labor Relations Manager is responsible for ensuring effective administration and compliance of Employment & Labor Law, Industrial Relations, Investigations, Worker's Compensation, and other workplace policies. This person will have day-to-day contact with front-line supervision in the daily implementation of the labor contract for approximately 850 United Steelworkers employees. We are seeking a proactive and experienced Labor Relations Superintendent to create, oversee, and manage our labor relations strategies and activities. A key portion of this position is to foster positive relationships between management and employees, ensuring compliance with the CBA, labor laws, and effectively addressing any labor related issues that arise within the organization.

What you will work on:

The principal responsibility of this position is to establish a labor relations climate that is conducive to fostering a relationship with the USW that supports our partnership philosophy striving for win-win solutions to issues, and constructive change consistent with the Kaiser Warrick business plan.

  • Develop and Implement Labor Relations Strategies: Create and execute strategies to promote a positive workplace environment and ensure effective communication between Plant leadership and the Union.
  • Negotiation: Lead bargaining with the local USW, ensuring fair agreements that align with company goals and employee needs.
  • Conflict Resolution: Address and resolve employee grievances and disputes, mediating between employees and management to facilitate understanding a resolution.
  • Training and Support: Provide training for all levels of management on labor relations practices, employee rights, and effective communication strategies.
  • Data Analysis: Analyze labor-related data and trends to inform decision making and develop proactive strategies to improve employee satisfaction and engagement.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Maintain open lines of communication with all stakeholders including employees, the local Union leaders, and management to build trust and transparency.
  • Identify, initiate, and negotiate work practice changes consistent with the Kaiser Warrick business plan.
  • Recognize and identify potential labor relations problems and recommend acceptable methods to avoid or resolve such problems.
  • Counsel and advise all levels of management concerning potential and/or current employee/labor relations issues.
  • Negotiate and administer local agreements. Assist in investigation, interpretation, and resolution of the grievance procedure, including preparation and presentation of grievances at arbitration.

About you:

  • Bachelor's degree in business or related discipline, or equivalent experience and education.
  • 5+ years Labor/Industrial Relations experience with a strong understanding of labor laws and Union relations.
  • Experience in contract administration and grievance resolution.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast paced environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
  • Highly competent in building relationships.
  • Strong organization skills and ability to prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Human Resources or Labor Relations
