If you like traveling the state and have an interest in learning about and supporting Maine's agricultural employers and workers, this job may be for you! The person in this position will visit agricultural housing sites in order to determine whether they are safe and ready for worker occupancy according to standards set by the United States Department of Labor, Division of Foreign Labor. Duties will also include completing reports, reviewing applications, assisting with job order processing, providing technical assistance to employers, and communicating with the Chicago Processing Center. The individual in this position m ust be willing and able to travel to housing or farm locations in rural remote areas of the state.
Primary responsibilities include:
+ Conducts onsite housing inspections to ensure compliance with Employment and Training Administration and/or Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations.
+ Writes reports of inspections and investigations in order to document findings and other required information.
+ Provide technical assistance on temporary foreign labor program services (H-2A and H-2B) to employers.
+ Assists in the preparation of required monthly, quarterly performance and annual reports.
+ Review and process job orders and ensure accurate information is reflected in the job orders.
+ Interviews employers and employees in order to gather information regarding labor practices and complaints.
+ Conducts consultations, conferences, and training programs in order to explain law standards; review practices; recommend appropriate changes/improvements to housing and/or provide information on labor laws.
+ Coordinates services and activities with other departmental professional staff in order to ensure that labor law protections are enforced for all migrant and immigrant workers in Maine.

+ Ability to learn and apply applicable Federal, State and Local laws, regulations, and procedures, to include Department of Labor rules, policies, and procedures.
Minimum qualifications:
A combination of education, training, and/or experience in Business/Public Administration, one of the Social Sciences, or a related area AND demonstrated experience involving extensive public contact, public speaking, complaint investigation/resolution, mediation, or a directly related area.

Preference will be given to those applicants:

+ Prior experience conducting facility inspections.
+ Knowledge of housing laws.
+ Fluency in Spanish in addition to English.
