Labor Supervisor

An Overview

A Labor Supervisor provides supervision to a group of Laborers and/or Equipment Operators engaged in the city's municipal solid waste collection activities and related work. An employee in this class collaborates in leading and motivating the refuse team by example daily. You will enforce city standards related to safety, customer service, productivity and compliance within the department are met daily within the refuse collection. This position directly reports to the Refuse Superintendent that assigns areas of work and standards, as well as reviews the quality of work performed.

* Enforces refuse dept., opening and closing procedures of team members by monitoring and reporting daily attendance, uniform/PPE compliance, conducting morning meetings, observing vehicle inspections, maintaining proper schedule and performing end of day tasks such as completing proper paperwork and reports.

* Under the direction and guidance of the Refuse Superintendent - trains, reviews, and evaluates employees' performance

* Conducts field observations of direct reports ensuring productivity and safety compliance are met daily

* Coordinates and schedules professional services with contractors and other city departments including, Street Maintenance, Water Sewer, Solid Waste, Street Cleaning, and General Services to maintain and assist with the overall operations.

* Conduct investigations for all injuries and incidents - collaborates with other departments such as safety and human resources in retraining and reducing unsafe behaviors within the department

* Collaborates with Fleet Services ensuring vehicles are fully compliant within preventive maintenance schedules, reported repairs and seasonal inspections for special projects.

* Receives, reviews and resolves complaints/requests for service or any other related inquiries related to refuse via asset management system, in person, or by telephone.

* Maintains proper inventory of materials and supplies - Collaborates with Superintendent and other team members in improving such

* Plan and organize work to be done, provide a source of technical guidance for labor, equipment, facilities maintenance and emergency and environmental assistance.

* Performs other related work as required including route coverage.

Minimum & Additional Requirements

The Ideal Candidate

To qualify for this position, all candidates must possess a High School Diploma or GED; three (3) years of experience as a laborer III or Equipment Operator; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Must possess a valid Commercial Driver's license (CDL), issued by the state of residence, with the proper endorsement for the vehicle being driven within six (6) months of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications

To be considered as an ideal candidate, one should possess a Two-Year College Degree with completion of college-level courses in environmental related studies; management studies; certification or experience in heavy equipment maintenance and operation; Commercial Driver's License (CDL) issued by your state of your residence.
