SUMMARY: Under the general direction of Engineering Director, this individual is responsible to perform all types of electrical, mechanical, and physical testing for engineering and laboratory projects, test data analysis, and equipment hardware and software maintenance. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - include the following. Other duties may be assigned.• Reviews project instructions to ascertain test specifications, procedures, objectives, test equipment, nature of technical problem, and possible solutions. Notifies assigning engineer upon completion.• Sets up and conducts tests of complete units and components under operational conditions to obtain data for development, standardization, and quality control.• Provides quarterly test data analysis, and test reports for laboratory, customer requests, and validation.• Routinely submits data in Underwriters Laboratories Client Test Data Package (CTDP) format.• References and utilizes test agency, industry, and international standards; updates lab test procedures as needed.• Maintains and updates applicable Engineering and North American Laboratory Group drives and databases.• Performs routine maintenance checks for all laboratory equipment, software, and tools to ensure proper working condition, place service orders for equipment that requires repair. • Responsible for the overall maintenance of the Engineering storage areas and samples retention per ISO Laboratory requirements. • Provides notification regarding any equipment malfunction, or accidental damage.• Follows all safety protocols per ISO 17025; alerts engineering staff concerning any potential safety issues. • Assists with all annual regulatory and verification audits. • Facilitates the planning, commissioning, documentation, and training of any new equipment installation in the laboratory.• Maintains log of calibrated equipment and ensures calibrations are carried out as per scheduled deadlines.• Ensures time studies for all tests are completed to maintain efficiency and repeatability.COMPETENCIES:• Identifies and resolves problems promptly; gathers and analyzes information skillfully.• Demonstrates the ability to synthesizes complex or diverse information.• Extremely data-driven with strong attention to detail; ability to manipulate and translate data.• Writes clearly and informatively and can present numerical data effectively.• Demonstrates group presentation skills for both internal and external stakeholders. • Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness and looks for ways to improve and promote quality.• Communicates changes and progress clearly and effectively in small or large group settings.• Pursues training and development opportunities; Strives to continuously build knowledge and skills.• Self-starter who can work independently and manage their time to meet competing demands.• Works with integrity and ethically; Upholds organizational values.• Follows policies and procedures; Plans and completes work activities correctly and on time. • Observes safety and security procedures; Uses equipment and materials properly.• Adapts to changes in the work environment• Acts proactively in all job aspects; be a team player.QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:• Minimum of 1-2 years of related experience with an Associate`s degree from 2-year college or technical school• Preferably a Bachelor`s degree within the Electrical or Mechanical Engineering discipline• Experience performing the following tests in a practical setting is preferred; Preform detailed cable breakdowns, tensile, elongation, crushing, impact, accelerated aging, flame, insulation resistance tests, spectroscopy, brittle point and oxygen index tests.WORK LOCATION: This position is full-time on-site reporting to our Florham Park, NJ office. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization. Fluent in the English language, written and spoken.COMPUTER SKILLS: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office 360 Suite and be adaptable to using new software and databases. WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is continuously required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to see in color. COMPENSATION: After thorough market analysis, LAPP takes many factors into consideration when determining base salary such as experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, etc. of the candidate. The base salary range for this role is $62,000 - $72,000 plus participation in LAPP's bonus plan.
