Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The Department of Molecular and Medical Pharmacology is seeking to hire a Laboratory Assistant to support our research endeavors. In this role, you will assist the Principal Investigator (PI) in conducting a diverse range of routine laboratory assays, molecular biology, and biochemical experiments. Responsibilities will include conducting Western blot, PCR, cloning, mammalian cell culture, and flow cytometry experiments. Additionally, you will operate ancillary equipment associated with small animal research, maintain laboratory supply inventory, and ensure cleanliness standards are upheld. Furthermore, you will be involved in various aspects of mouse work, such as administering different injection techniques, collecting blood samples, inoculating tumors, gathering tissue samples, and preparing mice for molecular and histological characterization.

Note: This is a part-time 40% limited role which may convert to career.

Hourly range: $22.02-$25.90

Required:

* Basic understanding of biology and animal physiology;

* Organized, accurate, and detail oriented schedules and records, performed in a timely manner: Working knowledge of spreadsheets, databases, and email;

* Ability to keep laboratory space clean, safe and organized, ability to order and maintain imaging and ancillary equipment; Ability to lift heavy equipment;

* Ability to ensure compliance with all University, State, and Federal laboratory safety, biosafety, and radiation safety protocols, rules, and guidelines.

Preferred:

* Basic understanding of molecular imaging research;

* Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of faculty, staff, post docs, graduate and undergraduate student about techniques and protocols; Ability to multi-task to meet deadlines;

* Experience in molecular and biochemical standard methods and cell culture;

* Ability to work with small animals such as mice and rats, including handling, injections, general physiology and maintenance, and dissections;

* Ability to learn flow cytometry if skill not already existing;

* Ability to follow directions and to both work independently and to work well with a team when needed;

* BS in Biology or related field.
