JOB DESCRIPTION:The Laboratory Assistant performs four essential roles in the function of the Laboratory:1) Lab Customer Service2) Phlebotomist3) Lab Order Entry including handling of patient information and test results.4) Specimen Processing and Shipment of samples to Reference LabsProvides Exceptional Customer Service to all stakeholders in a manner that supports the mission, vision and values of the Laboratory and UVMHNObtains specimens for testing according to policies, procedures and regulatory requirementsPerforms administrative duties to meet the needs of the Laboratory Department and the customers served by the laboratoryProcesses specimens prior to testing, ensuring quality and adhering to established policies and proceduresEDUCATION: Able to read, write and speak the English languageHigh School Diploma or equivalentEXPERIENCE: Phlebotomy Certification from a nationally recognized agency is highly recommendedPhlebotomy experience is a plusComputer entry or word processing skills requiredWorking knowledge of medical terminology desirableGood interpersonal communication skills requiredApproximately six months to a year is required to learn the job for satisfactory performance. The Laboratory Director will evaluate this.Sign on bonus:Sign on bonus of $3,000 is available to an eligible candidate.
