Cayuga Health's commitment to our employees includes competitive compensation, comprehensive employee benefits programs, and the opportunity to explore and build a career in healthcare through our many professional development programs. A Lab Assistant I - Phlebotomist preforms adult and pediatric Phlebotomy, in addition to daily tasks including, centrifuging, aliquoting and stabilizing patient specimens for transport via courier to the main campus lab or via the pneumatic tube system. Accurately register patients, insurance verification and verifying all patient demographics.Roles and Responsibilities:* Performs proper venipuncture and post care of phlebotomy site along with labeling each specimen with 2 forms of ID with zero labeling errors.* Perform registration and requisitioning and proper use of Meditech, Accureg and Cayuga connect. Participates in quality assurance and maintains inter and intra departmental work flow.* Helps minimize butterfly usage throughout the PSC s, maintains professional knowledge by participating in educational opportunities.* Maintains adequate inventory and all checklists and is able to trouble shoot when temperatures are out of range and assist with daily, weekly and monthly checklist completion.* Maintain a compliant environment, including adherence to all lab and hospital procedures, HIPPAA standards and safety guidelines.Required Skills and Experience:* Required: High school diploma or equivalent* Vocational phlebotomy (or related) course/program, or 1 year working phlebotomy experience.Preferred Skills and Experience:* Problem solving ability and attention to detail is preferred* Good written and oral communication skills preferred.* Requires ability to prioritize work, manage time wisely and adjust to changes in work volumes.Physical Requirements:* May require light lifting (up to 10 Lbs.) and carrying supplies.* Repetitive use of hands (e.g. computer keyboard usage), sitting, walking or standing for long periods of time is often necessary.Location and Travel Requirements:  * Onsite at 260 Tompkins St, Cortland, NY 13045* Shift: Full-Time - Days, Flex* 0%-5% Travel can be expected in this rolePay Range Disclosure:* Standard Rate of $17.79 to $24.04 per hour plus benefitsCayuga Health System and its affiliates are committed to treating all patients, providers, staff and volunteers equitably and with dignity, ensuring the highest levels of safety, care and respect, and striving to recognize and overcome biases and policies that contribute to disparities in healthcare access, equitable care and positive health outcomes for all.We are proud to be an Equal Employment Opportunity employer, supporting the growth and health of our employees and community by embracing the rich diversity, needs and circumstances of all peoples and prioritizing opportunities to build a diverse and inclusive workplace.
