Position InformationPosting NumberSRGV7739Working TitleLABORATORY MANAGERNumber of Vacancies1LocationEdinburg, TexasDepartmentCollege of Engineering and Computer Science / Center for Advance Manufacturing Innovation & Cyber SystemsFTE1FLSAExemptScope of JobProvide administrative and technical skills necessary to operate and manage a laboratory engaged in performing laboratory analyses and tests required for research, development, or quality control.Description of Duties• Manages all operations aspects and research activities of a laboratory involved in scientific research activities.• Responsible for facilitating research activities in the assigned laboratory.• Compiles, analyzes, and presents research data using computers and subledgers for submission to investigators to be used in preparation of journal articles for publication.• Prepares journal articles and writes protocols for research as required by organizing and editing data.• Conducts more complex experiments and analysis and trains others in these processes as needed.• Establishes goals, and schedules and coordinates laboratory administration, including purchasing and maintenance of laboratory equipment and supplies.• Ensures that all activities are in compliance with organization goals and applicable regulations.• Estimates personnel needs to obtain lab and research objectives.• Management duties include interviewing, selecting and training of employees; setting and adjusting their rates of pay and hours of work; planning and directing their work; appraising their productivity and efficiency for the purpose of recommending promotions or other changes in their status; handling their complaints and grievances and disciplining them when necessary.• Management responsibilities also include the authority to hire, fire, or promote assigned employees or make recommendations that are given particular weight.• Employees have impact on budgeting, controlling costs, planning, scheduling, and procedural change.• Performs other duties as assigned.Supervision ReceivedGeneral supervision from assigned supervisor.Supervision GivenDirect supervision of assigned staff.Required EducationBachelor's degree from an accredited university in a related scientific field.Preferred EducationN/ALicenses/CertificationsUse of standard office equipment.
