Laboratory Manager - Full Time - Pueblo, CO

Starting Pay Range: $55,536.00 - $65,363.60, annually.

Job Summary:

Provides and monitors laboratory services for all PCHC sites. Organizes, prepares, implements and participates in AAAHC accreditation of laboratory services.

Reports to:

* Chief Medical Officer

Supervision Exercised:

* Clinical Lab Supervisor

* Phlebotomist Supervisor

Education/Experience/License/Certification:

* Bachelor's or Associate's degree in laboratory science or related field required.

* Minimum three (3) years experience in a clinical laboratory setting required.

* Two (2) years supervisory and administrative experience required.

* Previous experience with JCAHO, AAAHC, COLA and/or CLIA a plus.

* Valid driver's license and auto insurance as required by law

Required Travel:

* Occasional travel may be required including day-to-day local travel.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

* Demonstrated administrative, organizational and supervisory skills.

* Ability to compose written documents using NCCLS (or old CLIA) and COLA criteria.

* Familiarity with OSHA regulations for lab and medical facilities.

* Knowledge of statistics.

* Knowledge of SDS.

* Understanding and knowledge of tests appropriate to each CLIA certification and ability to provide education and training for each test performed.

* Knowledge of overall laboratory operations including but not limited to tests, maintaining records, reporting test results, reviewing test results, QC records, preventative maintenance records, assessment of test performance through testing previously analyzed specimens, internal blind test samples or external proficiency testing.

* Ability to train other individuals to successfully perform lab procedures, documentation and testing.

* Experience with laboratory information systems, clinical/hospital information system interfaces and be willingness to research programs that may be beneficial to laboratory practices.

* Ability to interpret AAAHC and CLIA guidelines and implement criteria needed to meet standards.

* Experience in cost analysis and lab budgeting.

* Ability to assess departmental needs and problem solve.

* Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

* Adhere to the guidelines and procedures of Pueblo Community Health Center, Inc.

* Oversee training and monitor proficiency of all individuals collecting and performing tests in lab[JM1] including physicians, nurse practitioners, midwives, physician assistants, students and medical support services. This includes all locations where patient care is performed.

* Develop a Laboratory Services Program that will assist the physicians/health care providers and medical support services in providing laboratory services to enhance patient care through the performance of tasks including, but not limited to, the following.

* Provide oversight of[JM2] simple bench testing appropriate to the age-specific needs of all patients in accordance with the principles of growth and development for perinatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric life cycles. Tests performed must be appropriate to the CLIA certification held by Pueblo Community Health Center.

* Oversee[JM3] all aspects of laboratory operations relating to instrument cleaning and maintenance, safety enforcement, OSHA enforcement, supply ordering and/or equipment.

* Develop and maintain standard operating procedures using NCCLS criteria and review it on an annual basis using AAAHC and CLIA criteria.

* Review[JM4] and maintain SDS of medical facilities.

* Provide[JM5] statistics/information regarding test volume, cost analysis and reliability of tests being used.

* Oversee[JM6] all laboratory operations related to phlebotomy[JM7] and the clinical lab including aspects related to performing tests, maintaining records, reporting and reviewing test results, maintaining QC records, monitoring preventative maintenance records, assessing test performance by testing previously analyzed specimens, performing internal blind sample tests and external proficiency testing.

* Develop a training program[JM8] [JM9] for appropriate employees on lab procedures, documentation and testing.

* Develop[JM10] procedures for and oversee the performance of proficiency testing.

* Maintain laboratory service to meet AAAHC standards and CLIA criteria for licensure.

* Oversee the phlebotomy program and provide direction for pre-analytical testing. .

* Facilitate flow of patient care by anticipating the needs of healthcare providers with the delivery of lab services.

* Provide direction to the Clinical Lab Assistants on the maintenance [JM11] of all necessary documentation required for the lab.

* Oversight of the retention of [JM12] proper documentation of lab results and provide a process whereby medical providers are notified of any critical values and/or unacceptable samples.

* Adhere to all laboratory policies & procedures.

* Promote team success by participation in ongoing systems evaluation.
