GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Wyoming Public Health Lab, Microbiology Program is searching for AWEC (At Will Employee Contract) Laboratory Scientists. These positions will support efforts related to the testing and surveillance of SARS-CoV-2 and other infectious diseases within the State of Wyoming. Duties include and are not limited to nucleic acid extraction and isolation, real-time PCR, whole genome sequencing, wastewater processing/testing, bioinformatics data processing/pipeline development, bacterial culture and ID, an ID of drug-resistant bacteria/drug resistance mechanisms, and Public Health and Emergency Preparedness (PHEP) related lab activities. Additional duties may include sample accessioning, SOP writing, method validation, waste disposal, shipping and receiving, and any other duties assigned to meet the laboratory project or program goals and metrics.

* Analysis of human biological samples and environmental samples for the presence of SARSCoV2 and other infectious diseases

* Ability to learn and operate highly complex laboratory equipment

* Ability to follow standardized testing SOPs

* Cross-train in multiple sections of the Microbiology laboratory to provide surge capacity and coverage as necessary

Qualifications

PREFERENCES:

Preference will be given to candidates with a bachelor's degree in biological, physical, or chemical science. Laboratory experience is preferred but not mandatory.

KNOWLEDGE:

* General knowledge of scientific principles and disciplines

* General knowledge of laboratory work and sterile technique

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

* The employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying light items, driving an automobile, etc.
