Role Overview:

ABS Global, a Genus Company, has an exciting opportunity. We are looking for a Laboratory Technician to join our innovative IVF lab team in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. In this role, you will play a critical part in routine laboratory procedures, contributing to the successful completion of semen preparation, in vitro fertilization, embryo culture, and cryopreservation protocols. Youll collaborate closely with team members to meet both current and future lab objectives, contributing to the overall success of the teams efforts in animal reproductive technology. The ideal candidate is a team player with a goal-focused mindset, ready to foster collaboration within the ABS embryo team and make a meaningful impact on our mission to be an innovative and preferred partner in emerging agriculture livestock technology focusing on animal health and welfare that provides benefits to farmers, consumers, and the environment

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Prepare your workspace and equipment to ensure accurate assessment and safe manipulation of oocytes, semen, and embryos.
  • Support the ovum pickup (OPU) team by searching and classifying oocytes following IETS guidelines and preparing them for maturation.
  • Prepare materials such as IVF and IVC culture dishes, oocyte maturation tubes, and embryo media.
  • Execute daily lab procedures, including bovine oocyte maturation, semen thawing and preparation, in vitro fertilization, in vitro culture of embryos, cryopreservation, and loading embryos in straws for embryo transfer.
  • Grade, stage, and load embryos in straws for transfer, and complete embryo cryopreservation and thawing procedures.
  • Assist with the calibration and maintenance of lab equipment, including incubators, autoclaves, lab hoods, centrifuges, nitrogen tanks, and microscopes.
  • Accurately record data related to embryo production and cryopreservation.
  • Adhere to established safety regulations.
  • Develop technical skills in IVF embryo production processes, procedures, and tools.
  • Work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays, based on production demands.
  • Support the embryo transfer team in the field as needed, including loading embryos and recording data.
  • Follow detailed safety protocols during daily routines.
Requirements:
  • Bachelors or associates degree in animal science, biology, or a related field preferred, or exceptional experience in lieu of formal education.
  • Technical and scientific knowledge of IVF and embryology beneficial.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in bovine embryology or a related field is preferred.
  • Ability to sit for up to six hours and perform repetitive motions with hands and fingers.
