Department: ICE | WISL NICU Milk Lab Staff Department's Website: Summary of Job Duties: Supervised by Milk Lab Manager, the Milk Lab Technician is responsible for all essential tasks for handling and preparing infant feedings in the NICU Milk Lab. NICU infant feeding are prepared in accordance with Human Milk Banking Association of North America (HMBANA) guidelines and department policies. The individuals fulfilling this role are responsible for maintaining the aseptic environment of the NICU Milk Lab. The Milk Lab Technician is responsible for stocking the Milk Lab, as well as maintaining records of inventory, cleaning schedules, and equipment maintenance. Individuals fulfilling this role should be food handler certified and receive continuing education and training to support milk-handling techniques. Individuals in this role report to the Milk Lab Manager. State and federal laws and UAMS policy govern this position Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications: HS Diploma/GED; plus 1 yr experience in healthcare or food service. Preferred Qualifications: Formula/Human Milk Technician Certificate Additional Information: Responsibilities: Stores, prepares, and distributes breast milk and formula. Ensures labeling of human milk is complete and up-to-date per policy and performs inventory of human milk supply for each patient. Provides information to the healthcare team to support the care of individual families. Maintains safety and sanitization of equipment and work space. Ensures proper documentation is maintained for all preparation and dispensing. Participates in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities that identify ways to improve breast milk and formula processes. Evaluates practice and implements change as a result of CQI studies or research. P articipates in the orientation and education of milk lab technicians, nursing students, nursing fellows, and new departmental employees as directed by management. Performs other duties as assigned.
