Job SummaryUnder direct supervision, assists in the general maintenance of the facilities and equipment by safely operating small mowers, loading moving equipment, organizing and maintaining rigging, and general and light maintenance of cranes, trucks, and passenger vehicles. Also, laborers may be required to work long hours and be exposed to outdoor weather conditions.Benefits include insurance (medical, dental, vision, and life), paid time off, paid holidays, and Employer contribution to 401(k).Examples of Duties and Responsibilities
  • Operates lawn mowers and can include forklifts and passenger vehicles.
  • Inspects equipment that includes structures and/or materials, finds causes and errors, along with other problems or defects.
  • Performs physical activities that require the use of arms and legs such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials.
  • May serve as a rigger, signalman, or crane setup assistant as needed.
  • Maintains trucks, trailers, and cranes each day by fueling up, cleaning out, and washing to be ready for the next day.
  • Demonstrate professional conduct while having direct contact with all customers-paying, public, and company employees.
  • Performs related assignments as required.
RequirementsKnowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesWorking knowledge of the practices, methods, and materials used in cranes, trucks, passenger vehicles, and ground maintenance. Ability to operate machinery including construction vehicles. Ability to climb heights and conduct work with proper safety restraints. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; willingness to perform routine and heavy manual work for an extended period under difficult weather conditions; ability to lift and carry heavy equipment up to 70 pounds; good physical condition. Ability to perform set-up and clean-up tasks at job sites; direct traffic when necessary to ensure safety of pedestrians, motorists, and work crew; provide labor support as needed for crane crews and/or mechanics; and observe rigging operations and help when necessary. Ability to perform general maintenance and cleaning of construction equipment and vehicles. Should be willing to be mentored by veteran employees to build skills and possibly move to growth positions. Must be highly motivated and able to prioritize multiple tasks and to meet deadlines. Ability to work under pressure effectively. Demonstrates strong customer focus skills, teamwork, and communication skills. Excellent oral and written communications and human relations skills.Education, Training, and ExperienceCompletion of ninth grade required. High school diploma or GED preferred. Possession of a valid Maryland Class C driver's license or equivalent and ability to acquire a Class B driver's license. Experience in the general maintenance of grounds and equipment with experience in industry experience preferred. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience, which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform in the position may be considered.Special Requirements
  • Occasional exposure to extreme temperatures, fumes, and airborne particles with a moderate noise level.
  • Possible extended work days, long hours, and time away from home.
  • Wearing of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Must be reliable, punctual, and able to function at a high level as part of a team.
  • Must be able to pass a background check, drug test, and DOT physical.
