>Laborer I (Recycling Center Attendant)Public Works Department - Recycling CenterRequires successful post-offer completion of a background investigation, physical exam, and drug test (including marijuana/THC) as a condition of employment with the City of Joplin.Primary PurposePerforms unskilled and semi-skilled labor of routine difficulty, semi-skilled landscaping & grounds maintenance, and similar duties.Must be 18 years of age at time of employment.Ideal candidate will have forklift experience.Minimum QualificationsEducation: High School diploma or GED equivalent is preferred, but not required.Experience: No specific work experience required; some experience performing manual labor, including use of power tools and equipment, is required. The City pays 100% of the premium for the employees and a portion of the premium for family coverage.Additional Benefits include:* 2 weeks of vacation accrual per year.* 11 paid holidays per year + 3 paid floating holidays per year* Free life insurance to the employee, with supplemental options.* Dental insurance starting at $9.02/month with fully covered preventive services.* Vision insurance starting at $1.44/month.* Tuition reimbursement, longevity pay, Care Leave and sick leave buy-back programs.* Missouri LAGERS Retirement - employees do not pay into it; employee is fully vested after only 5 years of employment.* Access to 457 retirement plans with several benefits over traditional 401k plans.* Free library cards & gym access, fun employee events, and more!Floating holiday accruals depend on employee's start date.Essential Job Functions* Possess strong interpersonal and customer service skills; addresses questions and responds to citizen's complaints.* Tasks are completed in varying weather conditions.* Operates forklift in the loading and unloading of goods from a 3-tier pallet rack system, as well as loading and unload pallets from semi-trailer units.* Incorporates a pallet jack, hand truck, appliance dolly, and 55-gallon drum dolly to move materials and products to different locations.* Identifies, collects, sorts, and moves recyclables in the proper designated locations safely and efficiently.* Collect, move, and store hazardous household waste in compliance with SOPs.* Picks up trash and maintains the clean appearance of facilities and grounds and provides preventative maintenance.* Cleans and maintains restrooms and other park/recreation facilities, including picking up trash, washing facilities inside and out, ensures restrooms are supplied with soap, toilet paper, and paper towels, and painting/performing minor plumbing repairs as necessary.* Maintains the buildings, grounds, and equipment at the city facilities, including sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning and sanitizing laboratory, restroom, and lunchroom areas, changing lightbulbs, and painting.* Applies herbicides and insecticides, as necessary.* Contributes to the work team, communicates effectively with co-workers, both within and outside their department. Maintains satisfactory attendance to ensure duties are performed without negatively impacting co-workers or delivery of service to the public.Physical Demands, Requirements, and Working ConditionsThis position works in an outdoor environment. Must possess mobility to work outside as well as inside City facilities, to operate a fork truck/forklift vehicle and various motor vehicles to drive on facility grounds and city streets; strength, stamina and mobility to perform light to heavy physical work in confined spaces; operate a variety of hand and power tools and equipment; vision to read printed manuals, materials, and work instructions; hearing and speech to communicate in-person and over the telephone and radio. Finger dexterity is needed to safely operate equipment and tools. The position requires walking, climbing, standing, reaching, twisting, squatting, pushing, and pulling for long periods of time. Positions in this classification bend, stoop, kneel, and reach while operating tools and equipment and completing tasks at ground level and overhead. Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 100 pounds or heavier weights with the use of proper equipment. Depending on assignment, exposure to herbicides and insecticides may be required. Work assignments require exposure to a variety of extreme weather conditions, exposed to loud noise levels, fumes and odors; may work in cramped spaces and conditions with poor lighting and ventilation; susceptible to mechanical hazards associated with equipment and other hazards due to working in and around traffic and public.Apply Online RequirementsIdeal candidate will have forklift driving experience.
