This posting is subject to close after 14 days Performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled road construction, maintenance, and rubbish tasks. Operates a variety of equipment and tools utilized in the construction and maintenance of municipal infrastructure and completion of rubbish tasks. This position may work varied shifts. Major Duties
Performs curb-side brush and branch removal in designated sections of the city, and transports to the city compost site. Feeds collected brush and small logs into the brush chipper during pick-up operations. Performs construction and street maintenance work including, but not limited to, asphalt and concrete maintenance, removing and replacing concrete, setting concrete forms for new curb and pouring concrete, crack and pothole filling, and assisting with asphalt overlays as assigned. Assists with snow removal and ice control spreading salt using one-ton mini dump. Communicate with office staff using two-way radio regarding materials collected, routes covered, and any incidents or violations encountered. Operates a variety of light and heavy equipment (pickup truck, dump truck, skidsteer, pinning machine, trailer mounted chipper, etc.) in the performance of assigned duties. Performs routine inspection and cleaning on assigned equipment and refers defects or necessary repairs to the Right of Way Foreman. Uses a variety of power and hand tools, operates air compressor and air tools, and pavement and concrete saws in the performance of assigned duties. Performs manual labor such as snow shoveling, raking, litter cleanup, and hauling debris. Works at the City's Convenience station as scheduled one (1) Saturday shift per month. High school degree or GED required. Must possess and maintain a valid State of Michigan Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Group B, with no restrictions (Airbrakes required). Related experience performing a variety of outside physical labor tasks is required. Proven experience in the operation of a pickup truck, one-ton mini dump truck, skidsteer,10-yard truck, and other equipment is required. Basic knowledge of street maintenance duties such as concrete and asphalt maintenance; concrete and curb experience is desirable. Knowledge of the City's street system, with the ability to read and comprehend maps, diagrams, and follow schedules. Must have an attendance record acceptable to management. Supplemental Information This work requires the constant exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly requires standing, walking, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, tasting or smelling, lifting, and repetitive motion; frequent sitting and occasionally climbing or balancing, pushing or pulling; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly; hearing is required to recognize information at normal spoken work levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make find distinctions in sound; work requires, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surrounding and activities; work is regularly performed near moving mechanical parts, exposure fumes or airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions, vibrations and occasional exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals and bloodborne pathogens; work is generally performed in a very loud noisy location (e.g. jackhammer work, garbage recycle plant). This position may work varied shifts and must be available to work overtime, including weekends, holidays, and regular workdays, as needed. This includes responding to emergency situations that require attention outside of standard working hours.
