Job Concepts Function of Work: To provide physical effort to accomplish a variety of unskilled tasks or to inspect levees for signs of slides and washouts for proper drainage and elimination of various other causes of damage. Level of Work: Entry. Supervision Received: Close from a Laborer Foreman or other employee of higher grade. Supervision Exercised: None. Location of Work: May be used by all agencies. Job Distinctions: Differs from other unskilled jobs by close supervision required in performing most assigned tasks. Examples of Work The incumbent will work under the supervision of the Levee Foreman A, Levee Foreman B, Levee Foreman C, Maintenance Superintendent, Operations and Maintenance Coordinator or the Maintenance Regional Director. The incumbent in this position performs a physical effort to accomplish a variety of tasks in the Maintenance Department of the SLFPA-E, as follows: 70% Cutting and trimming grass within the SLFPA-E's Right-of-Way, including, but not limited to, floodwalls, poles, fences, dead-end streets and trees. The incumbent will be required to use gas/diesel powered tools and cutting equipment, including, but not limited to, weed eater, pole saw, chain saw, lawn mower, edger, lopper, hand prunes and self-propelled cutting equipment along with a variety of hand tools rakes, shovels, etc. 15% Removal of trash and debris from the SLFPA-E's Right-of-Way. 10% Perform miscellaneous labor duties such as cleaning of maintenance yard, washing vehicles, trimming trees, graffiti removal, sand-bagging where problems develop. 5% Filling of new sandbags as required and handling of sandbags as required. The incumbent will perform any and all other duties as required or assigned. NOTE: SLFPA-E is an emergency-oriented agency. Part of the SLFPAE's mission is to protect the residents of the east-bank of Jefferson Parish, St. Bernard Parish and the east-bank of Orleans Parish from tidal surge, wind-driven water and river flooding. In emergencies during Mississippi River flooding and Hurricane / Tropical Storm events, the incumbent will be on call and must report for duty if so required, remaining on duty in such situations until released from duty by the Appointing Authority.
