Job Type Full-time Description Position Summary: The Laborer will work in accordance with established policies and procedures and instructions from the Field Operations Manager. The position will service all David S Brown Enterprises, Ltd. portfolio of properties as required. The laborer will perform all landscaping and hardscaping duties as requested and or required. Physical Demands:
- While performing the duties of this position, employee is regularly required to walk, use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear
- Employee frequently is required to stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend-over, pull and push
- Employee frequently is required to lift and/or move up to 60 lbs.
- Employee is constantly exposed to outside weather conditions
- Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be loud on several occasions
- Operating powered equipment where manual pushing, pulling or steering of equipment is required (snow blower, leaf vacuum, etc.)
- Operating powered equipment where manual lifting and transporting of apparatus is required (snow plows, fork lifts, and bob cats)
- Using powered tools requiring stability during operation and which may cause abnormal vibration to the body of the operator such as a tamper
- Using non-powered tools requiring stooping, bending, reaching or swinging tool above shoulders (sweeping, hammering, etc.)
- Using non-powered equipment where manual pushing, pulling or steering of equipment is required
- Driving community equipment (trucks, tractors, riding lawn mowers, etc.)
Requirements Essential Duties:
- Care for established lawns by mulching, aerating, weeding and removing thatch, and trimming and edging around flower beds, walks, and walls
- Spray or spread fertilizers, herbicides, or insecticides onto grass, shrubs, and trees, using hand or automatic sprayers or spreaders
- Plant seeds, bulbs, foliage, flowering plants, grass, ground covers, trees, and shrubs, and apply mulch for protection, using gardening tools
- Attach wires from planted trees to support stakes
- Install concrete/brick pavers (all sizes and types), blue stone, slate and tree grates
- Prune shrubs, and hedges, using shears, pruners, or chain saws
- Provide proper upkeep of sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, fountains, planters and other grounds features
- Shovel snow from walks, driveways, and parking lots, and spread salt in those areas
- Operate powered equipment such as tractors, twin-axle vehicles, snow blowers, chain-saws, electric clippers, sod cutters, and pruning saws, pallet jack, power washer, tamper, generator, air compressor, and chop saws
- Use hand tools such as shovels, rakes, pruning saws, saws, hedge and brush trimmers, and axes
Responsibilities:
- Gather and remove litter
- Haul or spread topsoil, and spread straw over seeded soil to hold soil in place
- Trim and pick flowers, and clean flower beds
- Assist with drainage systems, retaining walls, fences, planters, and benches, site furnishings and/or playground equipment
- Maintain and repair structures such as buildings, fences, planters, and benches using hand and power tools
- Power washing
- Care for natural turf fields, making sure the underlying soil has the required composition to allow proper drainage and to support the grasses
- Prune and trim trees, shrubs, and hedges, using shears, pruners, or chain saws
- Install concrete/brick pavers (all sizes and types), blue stone, slate and tree grates
- Provide proper upkeep of sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, fountains, planters and other grounds features
- Shovel snow from walks, driveways, and parking lots, and spread salt in those areas
Required Experience & Skills:
- Must have one year of landscaping experience
- Machine Operating experience a plus
