Position: MAINTENANCE LABORER(TRADESMAN)POSITION SUMMARY: Work involves providing timely and efficient service to the Fall River Public Schools for a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled labor duties; to be responsible for conformance to FRPS standards of all work performed; to cooperate in the performance of work for which she/he is responsible with the work of other personnel engaged in labor activities and to perform miscellaneous unskilled and semi-skilled labor functions as may be assigned to him/her by his/her supervisor. Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers and supervisors; -
- ability to work cooperatively and harmoniously with other city employees; and positive can-do attitude;
- - ability to observe necessary safety precautions;
- willingness to work overtime hours as requested;
- a motor vehicle license; ;
- working knowledge of the use of common hand tools;
- working knowledge of construction and maintenance materials;
- working knowledge of one or more of the mechanical or building trades;
- ability to perform manual labor of a skilled nature;
- ability to use and make minor repairs to small tools and simple mechanical equipment;
- ability to understand and follow simple oral and written instructions;
- ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time and under varying climatic conditions;
- ability to perform manual labor with little latitude for independent judgment and under direct supervision.
The Superintendent of Schools reserves the right to waive a position qualification or determine that there is an acceptable alternative to that qualification. If the Superintendent intends to waive a qualification, such intent will be shared with the Fall River School Committee. Performance Responsibilities Performs routine manual labor tasks as assigned in assisting carpenters, electricians, painters, plumbers and steamfitters, roofers and HVAC mechanics other skilled tradespeople engaged in maintenance repair and construction work;
- Loading and unloading supplies for various skilled craftsmen as listed; pick up and deliver supplies to above listed craftsman
- Digging, jackhammering, demolition of construction related projects as directed;
- Repairing rails and fences;
- Chipping, scaling and cleaning steel rails; maintaining erecting and repairing of signs;
- General cleaning of roads and parking lots;
- Trims, waters and fertilizes trees and shrubbery;
- Erects and dismantles snow fences;
- Sweeps sidewalks, rakes lawns hauls debris, shovels snow, sands roads and performs other manual tasks in connection with snow removal;
- May clean; wash, gas, oil and grease trucks and automobiles;
- May perform other manual labor tasks in connection with the maintenance and operation of the maintenance garage;
- Performs routine labor tasks such as cleaning polishing equipment and machines.
- Performs manual labor in a stockroom, storeroom or warehouse such as loading and unloading freight, materials and equipment, handling and storing of stock, and assisting in the taking of inventories;
- Operates trucks with a rated capacity of 9 tons or under, including a range of equipment such as fork trucks, man lifts, pick-up trucks, dump trucks and panel trucks;
- Performs minor maintenance in order to ensure effectiveness of motor equipment; maintains clerical records pertaining to inventory control, disbursement, and preventive maintenance;
- Performs other related semi-skilled and unskilled tasks as required.
Reports to: Director of Maintenance or Designee Terms of Employment: Work day, work year and salary and benefits as negotiated in the AFSCME Maintenance Contract.
