**Laborer - Open Until Filled**

**POSITION SUMMARY:**

The Laborer, under the direction of the Lead Carpenter/Field Superintendent, is responsible for assisting skilled craft workers in the completion of construction projects for Sault Tribe Housing Authority.

**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:**

* Lifts, carries, and holds building materials, supplies and tools for carpenters.

* Cleans and picks up materials, tools, etc. to ensure a clean and safe working environment.

* Drives daily to and between job sites, warehouse, and vendor locations to deliver and pick-up materials as requested.

* Follows specific warehouse/material procedures.

* Tears out and demolishes and disposes of materials on the job site.

* Nails miscellaneous items such as drywall, plywood, siding, trim, etc.

**ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:**

* Delivers and transports old products to non-profit organizations on a weekly basis as required.

* Assists in hanging, finishing, sanding, priming, painting drywall as needed.

* All other job-related duties as assigned.

**CONTACTS:**

Immediate peers, peers in other departments, immediate supervisor/manager, managers in other departments, customers and outside vendors/service providers.

**PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:**

Position very heavy with lifting objects over 100 pounds with frequent lifting/carrying of more than 50 pounds with team or dual lifting. Physical factors include constant standing/walking, reaching, bending; frequent pushing/pulling, climbing, stooping, kneeling, manual handling, use of hearing; occasional sitting, crawling, use of smell, near/midrange/far vision, depth perception, color/field of vision and driving to worksites for material pick-up/delivery. Working conditions include constant exposure to weather, extreme heat/cold, wet/humidity, noise and frequent vibration and occasional exposure to air quality. Potential hazards include constant exposure to moving mechanical parts and equipment and occasional exposure to electric shock, high exposed places and chemicals.

**REQUIREMENTS:**

**Education:** High School diploma or equivalent preferred.

**Experience:** Minimum of 2 years of experience working in the construction industry required.

**Certification/License:** Must have a valid driver's license and be insurable by the Sault Tribe Insurance Department. Must comply with annual driver's license review and insurability standards with the Sault Tribe Insurance Department. Will be required to complete and pass pre-employment drug testing.

**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:** Must have basic knowledge of construction materials. Must be able to follow instructions both verbal and written. Must have reading skills. Must be able to interpret and follow safety rules and operations manuals. Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Must be able to interpret and follow safety rules and operations manuals. Must be flexible and available to work various shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays. Will be required to supply a variety of hand and power tools to perform the duties of this position, list will be provided upon hire. Native American preferred.
