Will perform laborer work once license is obtained and awaiting a position to open for bid.Key Accountabilities* Work/train with Process Technician to gain experience needed to sit for the Grade IV exam administered by the State of Tennessee. Must successfully pass the license exam. Will be expected to work rotating shift to gain experience with all four shifts. Once license is obtained, will perform duties of a Laborer. (Occasional)* Use weed eater, chain saw, mower, forklift and tractor (with various attachments) at various locations. (Frequent)* Move hoses to basins and filtration units for de-sludging activities. Includes manual operations of fire hoses and hydrants. (Frequent)* Perform janitorial tasks where directed. Use mop, broom, shovel and various hand tools as directed. (Frequent)* Paint walls, floors, piping/fixtures, pumps and motors using manual roller, brush or electric sprayer. (Frequent)* Drive Company vehicles (including but not limited to cars, trucks and vans) as required, includes pulling and backing trailer. (Frequent)* Performs other duties as assigned. (Frequent)* Collecting and analyzing water samples (chlorine, pH, turbidity, etc.) (Frequent)Knowledge/Skills* Know the general practices of water treatment and distribution.* Remain calm during emergency situations.* Lifting/carrying items weighing over 50 lbs up and down steps or grades, including use of* various hand tools and filter aide.* Be physically able to use self-contained breathing apparatus and respirator.* Walk at heights and on narrow passageways.* Work in confined areas/spaces.* Work outdoors in all kinds of weather.* Follow all established safety guidelines and procedures.* Possess effective computer skills and understand data shown on a computer screen.* Knowledge: General principles of water treatment and water distribution.* Advanced arithmetic and geometry.* Operating computer and SCADA systems and able to interpret data.Experience/Education* Water and/or waste-water utility experience preferred.* High School graduate or State-recognized Educational Equivalency Certificate.* Specific vocational preparation includes an occupationally significant combination of vocational education, apprentice training, in-plant training, or on-the-job training.Certifications & LicensesMust be able to sit for the TN Grade III Water Treatment exam within 12-months (or first available test administration). Will have two (2) chances to pass the exam. Must be able to sit for the TN Grade IV Water Treatment exam within 36-months (or first available test administration).
