Together, we create something unique that keeps on growing year after year.The Purchasing Specialist will be responsible for sourcing and purchasing plant materials, rental equipment, and other supplies necessary for landscaping projects. This role involves negotiating with suppliers and ensuring timely delivery of quality products. A knowledge of plant names and horticulture and common landscape materials is required.Responsibilities of a Purchasing Specialist will include, but are not limited to:
  • Plant Procurement: Source and purchase quality plant materials from a variety of nurseries and brokers. Requires up-to-date plant knowledge to approve/recommend substitutions and gauge quality of materials.
  • Rental Equipment Procurement: Coordinate between field personnel and vendors to arrange delivery and pick up of rental equipment.
  • Material Procurement: Process field requests for deliveries of mulch, soil, aggregates, etc., to project sites, from a variety of sources, and in a timely manner.
  • Supplier Management: Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers, negotiate prices and delivery schedules.
  • Inventory Management: Maintain a list of surplus plant material in company yards to utilize extra plants on future projects.
  • Quality Control: Ensure purchased products meet quality standards and specifications.
  • Order Management: Process purchase orders, track orders, and ensure timely delivery of materials to project sites.
  • Market Research: Stay informed about market trends, new products, and pricing to make informed purchasing decisions.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, site supervisors, and other team members to understand project requirements and timelines.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of purchases and supplier agreements.Are you the right fit for this role?Skills & Experience that are necessary as a Purchasing Specialist will include, but are not limited to:
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a purchasing or procurement role, preferably within the landscape, plant nursery, or construction industry.
  • An up-to-date knowledge of plant names and their horticultural requirements.
  • Awareness of common landscape materials and local vendors.
  • Good negotiating skills with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must possess strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet project deadlines.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple concurrent tasks and projects with limited supervision.
  • High attention to detail, accuracy, and thoroughness.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel & Word.Perks and Pluses:
