Plant and maintain trees, shrubs, hedges, annual flower beds, and planters by pruning and trimming. Remove litter, sand, dirt, and debris from assigned area. Operate and/or utilize truck mounted plow, sidewalk plow, shovel, and/or ice scraper, chemical melter, or sand to remove snow/ice. Inspect, repair, install, and perform routine maintenance of playground equipment/areas. Operate computerized irrigation controller and repair irrigation system as needed. Examples of Duties Maintain campus lawns, to include: - 75%
- Mow, edge, trim, irrigate, and fertilize campus lawns.
- Prepare areas and sow seed and/or lay sod.
- Operate and/or perform routine maintenance on lawn maintenance equipment, to include: walk behind mower, riding mowers of various types, push mower, string trimmer, edger, lawn sweeper, vericutter, and related equipment.
- Apply insecticides, herbicides and fungicides to control disease, weeds, and insects.
- Serve as Lead Worker of student employees assigned to the area.
- Operate computerized irrigation controller and repair irrigation system as needed.

Typical Qualifications Education: High School Diploma or EquivalentExperience:
- Eighteen months' grounds maintenance experience, to include six months experience in the proper use of horticultural chemicals and related application equipment.
- Irrigation experience preferred.
Supplemental Information Special Skills/Abilities/Knowledge:
- Working knowledge of common horticultural/agricultural chemicals and their proper use.
- Working knowledge of grounds maintenance and turf care.
- Basic math and measuring skills to safely calculate and mix horticultural/agricultural chemicals and fertilizers.
- Ability to calibrate spray equipment and fertilizer application equipment.
