JOB PURPOSE:Tends laundering machines to clean sheets, blankets, pillow coverings, and personal articles of patients. Loads articles in washer and adds specified amount of detergent or other cleaning agents. Lifts clean, wet articles from washer and places them successively into wringer and dryer for measured time cycles. Sorts dry articles according to identification numbers or type. Folds and places items in appropriate storage bin.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Folds and sorts laundry (blankets, sheets, towels etc.) and personal clothing itemsHangs clothes on racks according to name and numbers.Delivers patient/resident's laundry to designated areasEnsures that patients/residents clothes are ready to wear, not in disrepair and put in proper placeUnderstands functions of various soaps and bleachesFollows precautions as stated on MSDS for all chemicals usedWashes and dries clothes and linensKeeps equipment clean and follows cleaning schedulesMaintains a clean and organized area; sweeps and mops laundry areaReports any needed repairs to maintenance departmentOperates large filters according to established schedulesEnsures proper handling of soiled laundry itemsCleans and disinfects linen carts as required per policy and procedureEmpties washers and dryers as requested/necessaryOperates water, gas, and electric cutoff switches and valvesUnderstands the proper process for stain removalMINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:High School Degree preferred.MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:On-the-job training providedADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: (Preferred qualifications)Previous experience in healthcare laundering processes\Family Makes Us Stronger.
