Up To Date Laundry is one of the largest commercial laundries on the East Coast servicing hospitals and other healthcare facilities in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Delaware, D.C., and Virginia. We provide a full service to our customers from pickup to delivery. Our dedicated staff of laundry associates, drivers and maintenance technicians, and administrative and management teams ensure the delivery of hygienically clean laundry year-round.

The Laborer position entails many manual labor tasks within the plant. This position performs a variety of tasks, which may vary daily. The tasks to be performed include, but are not limited to the following:

Position responsibilities:

Essential Job Duties

Exchange Carts - Taking clean hospital linen and placing it in linen carts in an organized fashion according to the customer's specifications (also known as building carts ). This can involve working on an individual basis or in a small group; Physically moving carts of clean linen at workstations as well as to multiple locations within the building; Physically hand folding clean linen.

Washcloths - Removing piles of clean washcloths from linen carts, organizing, stacking, and placing them into linen carts at a certain pace so that the company production standards/goals are met on an hourly basis; Counting clean washcloths and documenting it while physically placing them into linen carts.

Feeding - Feeding clean hospital linen into an industrial ironing machine at a certain pace so that the company production standards/goals are met hourly. This can involve working on an individual basis or in a small group; Physically transferring clean linen from linen carts to workstations as well as between multiple linen carts; Physically moving carts of clean linen at workstations as well as to multiple locations within the plant; Physically hand folding clean linen.

Catching: Catching clean hospital linen as it is dispersed through an industrial ironing machine at a certain pace so that the company production standards/ goals are met hourly. This can involve working on an individual basis or in a small group; Physically stacking and counting clean linen as it is dispersed through an industrial ironing machine; Physically transferring stacks of clean linen to different platforms at workstations; Physically moving carts of clean linen at workstations as well as to multiple locations within the plant; Physically hand folding clean linen.

Packing - Packing stacks of clean hospital linen into plastic linen carts as it is dispersed through an industrial ironing machine at a certain pace so that the company production standards/goals are met hourly. This can involve working on an individual basis or in a small group; Counting pieces of clean linen and documenting it while physically packing it into linen carts; Physically transferring stacks of clean linen to different platforms at workstations; Physically moving carts of clean linen at workstations as well as to multiple locations within the plant; Physically hand folding clean linen.

Soil - Separating soiled/dirty hospital linen on a conveyor belt and placing individual items in certain bins so that the linen can be automatically loaded into washing machines. This involves working with other people as a group. Physically moving carts of soiled/dirty linen to multiple locations within the soil area

Cleaning and removing trash at workstations as needed; Physically grabbing and removing bags of soiled/dirty linen from linen carts, opening bags of soiled/dirty hospital linen, and dumping the contents onto an incline conveyor belt so that the linen can be automatically loaded into washing machines. This involves working on an individual basis or with another person(s). The employee is expected to wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Inspect the linen for defects as you feed, pack, or catch.

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, and procedure manuals.

  • Relevant experience working in a production environment is preferred, but not needed.

  • This position requires someone who can meet or exceed production quotas and is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment that is not temperature-controlled.

  • The tasks assigned may vary daily, which requires someone to be flexible in performing a variety of general labor duties to meet business needs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing duties of this job, they would have to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop or kneel, talk, and hear, and use fingers and hands to feel objects, tools, or controls. Due to the nature of the business, employees can be exposed to Blood Borne Pathogens (BBP), trash, and the rancid smell of soiled linen. The company provides Hepatitis B vaccinations with the consent of the employee. Employees are expected to wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in designated areas while performing job duties. Must occasionally lift up to 50 lbs. and/or push carts up to 600 lbs. Operation is a seven-day work week, weekends are needed. The facility is a warehouse environment in which climate control outside of office areas can fluctuate depending on the weather (summer months extreme heat while winter months colder climate).
