Southwest Virginia Community College (SWCC) offers career-training programs in numerous technical, industrial, and medical fields at a reasonable cost, going so far as to even waive tuition for certain eligible students. Located in Richlands, Virginia, Southwest offers associate degrees in such fields as business, education, general studies, liberal arts and science. These degrees are primarily intended for students who wish to transfer to a four-year university. Southwest also has associate degrees that feature programs intended to lead directly to a career in fields such as Nursing, Radiography and Administration of Justice.
Southwest Virginia Community College is seeking an individual for the role of part-time Law Enforcement Officer for the Cedar Bluff campus.
The successful candidate will be able to foster trust within our diverse community and problem solve through collaboration.
Responsibilities will include:
* Observing and reporting any and all incidents while on campus
* Performing foot patrols in and around all buildings on campus
* Monitoring and assisting with residents in the adjacent housing complex
* Maintaining a professional yet approachable manner with the public
* Opening and securing buildings and classrooms
* Occasional transport of mail and bank deposits and withdrawals
* Basic upkeep of assigned equipment and tools
* Directing traffic
* Assisting students, faculty, and visitors with daily calls of service (keys locked in vehicle, boosting vehicle batteries, directions, etc.)
* Following instructions and directives from supervision
* Supporting special events
* Assisting individuals interested or enrolled in all opportunities at Southwest Virginia Community College
Minimum Qualifications:
* Must be able to pass a drug screening
* Must hold a valid VA Law-enforcement Certification
* Must be able to pass CPR training (obtain certificate)
* Must have a valid driver's license
* Cannot have criminal convictions excluding traffic offenses
* Must be physically fit enough to walk the campus, stairs, hallways, etc. and stand multiple hours in all types of weather
* Must possess excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills
* Must have basic computer skills
* Must be available to work different shifts and weekends upon request
* Law-enforcement experience required
* Experience using radio communications equipment
* Ability to multitask
* Must maintain confidentiality, respond to internal and external requests for information and work with a diverse group of individuals
