DOCJT is now offering higher starting salary for Law Enforcement Training positions! Looking for the next step in your law enforcement career? As a Law Enforcement Instructor, you'll be able to utilize your passion and knowledge for law enforcement, to provide quality criminal justice training, through both in-person and virtual training methods, that will enhance the ability of the state's law enforcement personnel. Which will reduce crime and its cost to society and create a safe, secure environment for Kentucky.

The Department of Criminal Justice Training (DOCJT) located in Richmond, Kentucky has an opening for a Law Enforcement Instructor for the Resiliency Section. The law enforcement professional will provide instruction on the topics of mental health, coping strategies, and building resiliency to police officers and telecommunicators. The law enforcement professional will also assist in the Kentucky Post-Critical Incident Seminar (KYPCIS) seminar and provide mental health support and resources to agencies throughout the Commonwealth to assist police officers and telecommunicators after a critical incident has occurred.

Responsibilities and Duties:

* Teaches assigned law enforcement topics using approved lesson plans, conducts scenario-based training and utilizes adult learning principles.

* Researches, revises established lesson plans, develops new lesson plans and instructional class materials for law enforcement or law enforcement related topics.

* Coordinates class training and class preparation for training courses.

* Prepares and completes all required administrative paperwork, testing, grading and any class required reports.

* Attends internal and external training courses.

* Other duties as assigned.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

* Sworn civilian law enforcement experience.

* Experience with individual peer support or member of an agency and regional peer team.

* Experience with trauma exposure and trauma response.

* Training and experience in classroom instruction.

* Knowledge in the use of computer technology, e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.

Additional / Supplemental Information:

* Maintain a valid driver's license.

* Lift heavy objects or work in uncomfortable positions for extended periods of time.

* May be required to carry and/or use a firearm.

* Frequently communicate in person or by other means of technology.

* Spend a major portion of time using a computer.

* Travel required (state vehicle provided).

A background check is required. Final job offer is contingent upon successful completion of background investigation. In compliance with Commission of Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agency, a standard 5.28 physical exam will be required after initial offer of employment.

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Three years of experience as a sworn law enforcement officer or in law enforcement telecommunications.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: NONE

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Additional experience as a sworn law enforcement officer or in law enforcement telecommunications will substitute for the education on a year-for-year basis.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): NONE

Working Conditions

Incumbents working in this job title perform work in a classroom and/or simulated training setting.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 12 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
