Job DescriptionUnder general supervision ofthe Chief Nursing Officer and direct supervision Director of Emergency Department, Assistant ED Director, Nurse Manager orcharge nurse, uses the nursing process to safely coordinate total patient care and education for an assigned number of emergency patients. Atall times, patient assignments will bedetermined byadjustment of emergency department patient census and current staffing levels for the overall patient care which are reviewed shift-to-shift. Asdetermined bythe Director, Assistant Nurse Manager orcharge ' nurse, the nurse will beassigned upto 40hours per week and mayrotate betweenday and night shiftaccording to the needs of the unit and staff. The nurse isexpected to function within the LPN's scope practice and approved policies, procedures, and regulations for the department and organization. Will be responsible to assist the Charge nurse or RN with orientation, preceptorship for LPNs, ED Nurse Techs or Unit Secretaries assigned to unit. Must be able to work and relate ina professional, non-defensive manner with peers, physicians, mid-level providers, administration, patients,and visitors. Will be responsible to document total care given,assistwith review and maintain patient chart per policy, and assist with accurate and timely entryof patient data, orders, and charges into computer system. Nurse demonstrates responsibility for the monitoring, nursing intervention, re-assessment of patient's vital signs intriage that are waiting on care, and reports needs/ concerns to RN/ provider intriage this is patient safety and patientsatisfaction. Maintains clinical competenceto perform any jobduty withinthe scope of LPN practice providing care for patient care during procedures. Maintains knowledge aboutand ensures delivery of nursing care at orabovestandards of practice for nursing. Administers medication safely: using 6 rights: right Person, right Medication, right Dose, right Time, right Route and right Documentation. Demonstrates knowledge of and administers all medications according to physician's order and hospital policy. Documents adverse drug reactions immediately to RN, Charge Nurse, Provider and reports perdepartmental and pharmacy policy. Performs IV therapy while demonstrating skill and accuracy per physician's orderand hospital policy and LPNs scope of practice. Promotes unit and organizational philosophy and goals; involved in the development of unit goals. Supports and assists with staffing/scheduling policies to meet unit needs. Assists withestablishment of departmental policies and procedures that reflectthe services provided by the emergency department. Participates in organizational committees as assigned. Provides important information on trends related to patient outcomes to ED Director, assistant manager or charge nurse. Maintains current knowledge of regulatory requirements: EMTALA, DNV and CMS. Demonstrates professionalism and reinforces professional behaviorof staff members. Demonstrates knowledge and skill relatedto patient throughput and customer service/ satisfaction. Pays close attention to the ED census with special emphasis on patientthroughput. Addressesany patient concerns. The successful candidate will have to pass a pharmacology test forthis position. Complete the yearly mandatory in-service (YMI) requirements is nonnegotiable and will be the responsibility of the employee to arrange and attend sessions and remain current on Healthstream assignments.DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: The LPN is expected to function within the LPN scope ofpractice and approved policies, procedures, and regulationsfor the department and organization. Assist RN in collection of data for assessment information to formulate plan ofcare. Demonstrates ability to prioritize patient care depending on needs/problems identified during patient assessment. Communicates patient needs to otherdisciplines and promotes discharge planning. Assisting in Assessing, monitoring and management ofpatients: presenting clinical, chronic, urgent oremergent situation May be responsible to assist the Charge nurse or RN with orientation, preceptorshipfor LPNs, ED Techs, students or Unit Secretariesassigned to unit. Must be able to work and relate in a professional, non-defensive manner with peers, providers, administration, patients, andvisitors. Ability to cope with frequent unpleasant sights/smells and difficult patient/family behaviors. Demonstrate anddeliver patientcenteredcare. Patient Advocate providing Patient Centered Care
