Position Type: Student Support ServicesDate Posted: 5/28/2024Location: Atlantic County Special ServicesDate Available: TBDClosing Date: TBDLDTC at Atlantic County Special Services School District Position Purpose As a member of the Child Study Team, the Learning Consultant will assess and evaluate students' educational functioning. Serve as an educational consultant to classroom teachers and parents.Essential Functions 1. Conducts educational assessments, as assigned, after a classroom observation, utilizing a minimum of two diagnostic measures to determine the learning characteristics and functional level of students. Writes a formal Learning Evaluation which determines the learning levels and characteristics of the students as mandated by state law. 2. Interprets the implications of significant educational findings and participates in the development of Individualized Educational Programs. 3. Serves as educational consultant to parents by interpreting diagnostic findings, making educational recommendations and facilitating parental participation in developing the Individual Educational Program. 4. Serves as educational consultant to teachers in the interpretation of diagnostic findings into instructional strategies: the implementation of the Individualized Educational Program and the development and evaluation of the instructional guide.5. Maintains and disseminates current information regarding instructional methods, materials, programs and implications of research findings for educational practice. 6. In the role of the case manager, provides parents with Due Process Rights, coordinates the development and monitors the progress of the students in the assigned caseload. Conducts I.E.P. Annual Review Meetings with parents, staff and sending districts. Makes recommendations to administration when needed. 7. Attends staff meetings and participates in staff development and in-service activities. Serves on committees to plan, promote, or assist in specific school projects, as required. 8. Accepts responsibility for student duties such as recess or lunch supervision, as assigned. 9. Communicates in a professional manner with parents/guardians and out of district personnel while maintaining good public relations. 10. Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for educational related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.Skills, Knowledge, Abilities - Knowledge of Special Education principles, theories, testing, methods, etc. as well as proven methods of maximizing the educational experience of students with special needs. - Knowledge of differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles. - Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans. - Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students. - Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed. - Ability to organize and coordinate work. - Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents. - Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth. - Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work. Qualifications Profile Certification/License: - New Jerssey Special Education Teacher with the Teacher of the Handicapped Certification or TOSD - New Jersey Learning Disabilities Teacher Consultant Certification
