Job Description / Essential Elements: JOB TITLE: Lead Custodian Job Purpose Statement: The job of Lead Custodian is done for the purpose of maintaining an attractive, sanitary and safe facility; providing adequate arrangements for meetings, classroom activities and events; directs and trains other employees, substitutes, student workers, J.T.P.A. workers, etc. and minimizing property damage, loss and liability exposure. Essential Job Functions: Arranges furnishings and equipment for the purpose of providing adequate preparations for meetings, classroom activities and events. Cleans school facilities (e.g. classrooms, offices, gym, restroom, multipurpose rooms, grounds, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a sanitary, safe and attractive environment. Delivers variety of items (e.g. supplies, mail, packages, furniture, etc.) for the purpose of distributing materials to the appropriate places. Directs other employees, student workers, JTPA workers, and substitutes, etc. for the purpose of ensuring availability of staff, overseeing and training. Evaluates situations (e.g. involving other staff, students, parents, the public, etc.) for the purpose of taking appropriate action and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution. Informs students, other site personnel and supervisor for the purpose of providing information regarding activities, safety and/or proper maintenance of facilities. Inspects work areas for the purpose of ensuring safety and cleanliness, and identifying necessary repairs due to vandalism and wear and tear. Maintains supplies, equipment, etc. for the purpose of ensuring the availability of required items. Opens facilities and inspects grounds for the purpose of a safe campus and immediately reports any problems to appropriate authority. Prepares reports (e.g. safety hazards, work orders, requisitions, etc.) for the purpose of documenting information. Repairs furniture and equipment for the purpose of ensuring that items are available and in safe working condition. Requests equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of items as needed to properly maintain facilities. Secures facilities and grounds for the purpose of minimizing property damage, loss and liability and ensuring safety at work sites. OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities. Attends in-service training for the purpose of receiving information on new or improved methods and/or equipment. Job Requirements - Qualifications Knowledge is required to perform basic math including fractions, percents and ratios; to read procedures, write sentences and speak distinctly; and apply common sense understanding of detailed multi-step instructions. Skills to perform multiple complex tasks. Specific skills to apply pertinent codes, policies, regulations and/or laws; communicate with persons of varied cultural and educational backgrounds; operate equipment used in profession; prepare and maintain accurate records. Abilities to deal with a level of complexity of tasks that require significant coordinating sequences of equipment operations; coordinating of other persons schedules and/or activities; discretion, independent action and/or judgment with regards to using equipment; and interacting with persons and/or agendas that frequently change. Specific abilities to adhere to safety practices; be attentive to detail; meet deadlines and schedules; and work under time constraints. Lifts a minimum of 50 lbs. Responsibility in relationship to people includes leading, guiding and/or coordinating. The resources required (people, equipment, facilities, and/or funding) necessary to perform job functions are of a significant scope. Working Environment: The job functions are generally performed in an indoor/outdoor environment requiring the following significant physical abilities: lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling; stooping, kneeling, crouching; reaching, handling, fingering and/or feeling; sensory hearing and visual. Educational Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent. Experience Requirements: Two years job related experience required. Licensing, Certification, Testing Requirements: Fingerprint/criminal justice clearance; Tuberculosis clearance; valid drivers license and evidence of insurability.
