Job Overview As Data Governance Lead you will lead and implement Valley's enterprise-wide data governance program. Apply principles comprised of industry best practices to evolve Valley's data governance framework, define & develop data quality controls, and institute data management policies and processes. Work closely with other stakeholders, such as business data owners & stewards, data scientists, product owners and developers to foster a collaborative environment by ensuring data is consistent, reliable and all quality checks are compliant with data-related policies and regulations. The Governance Lead will also champion the establishment/enhancement of various data management committees and working groups. Job Description Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Create and centralize key Data Management Policies / Frameworks.
- Own the definition of Data Management Standards to support the Data Management Policy, such as:
- Data Governance Standards o Metadata Management Standards
- Data Quality - Control Standards
- Data Lineage Standards
- Authoritative Source Provisioning - Consumption Standards
- Reference - Master Data Management Standards
- Data Architecture Standards
- Assist with the definition of the Data Management Strategy in close collaboration with business stakeholders from across the bank.
- Implement formal Critical Data Element (CDE) identification and certification/attestation processes.
- Lead a Business Glossary initiative to identify and document the set of critical and impactful data elements and supporting metadata.
- Liaise with functional partners such as:
- Risk and Controls team to ensure business and IT controls are captured and tested to support CDE attestation
- IT team to ensure Functional and IT Lineage capture has been completed for CDEs
- Build and manage a team of associates to support delivery of Data Management Standards and Policies across Valley Bank.
- Recruitment, interviewing, hiring and training of team staff. Assist with on-going development, guidance, support, and provide performance feedback.
- Communicates project expectations to team members and stakeholders.
- Liaises with project stakeholders on an ongoing basis. Sets and continually manages project expectations with team members and other stakeholders. Determines the frequency and content of status reports.
- Define project scope, deliverables, and resources that support business goals in collaboration with senior leadership and stakeholders project team, analyzes results and troubleshoots problem areas.
- Defines project success criteria and disseminates them to involved parties throughout project life cycle. Develops best practices and tools for project execution and management.

- Communication: Drive the adoption of enterprise data governance and help demonstrate alignment to strategic capabilities for the enterprise -- championing best practices in data management to help change the culture of the organization.
- Experience: Knowledge of and demonstrated success with many of the activities listed above.
- Ability to work independently and to drive iterative enhancements in overall data management maturity over time: The data governance lead will need to be hands-on and able to develop work products independently and through delegations or partnerships with other stakeholders.
- Education - Training: Establish formal Data Governance roles and responsibilities and provide formal training/resources.
- Educate the enterprise on the importance of Data Governance and the cost of bad data.
- Data Privacy - Compliance: Focus on the need for data security and privacy through partnerships with enterprise information security and risk - compliance areas.
- Program Management: Manage the day-today activities of the Data Governance Program; including building a supporting team, project planning, facilitation, and project coordination.
- Tooling: Preferred experience with leading vendor tools (and lessons learned) to support data management activities (e.g., Informatica, Collibra).
Required Experience:
- BS/BA degree in Computer Science, Information Management, or related field and minimum 15 years of professional experience with 10+ years supporting data integration, data governance, data life cycle management, data quality, and data strategy.
- Minimum 10 years' experience leading large scale Data Governance Projects or Teams in Banking or Finance Industry.
- Validated working experience with surrounding and supporting disciplines (data quality, data privacy/protection. data operations, data archiving, data security).
