Job Summary Under the direction of a Food Services District Supervisor, the Lead Food Service Worker performs work in the satellite food service operation in the School District. The Lead Food Service Worker orders, receives, stores, reconstitutes and distributes pre-packaged, prepared lunches at a school location, and may supervise a small crew of Food Service Aides engaged in the unpacking, heating and serving of these meals. The Lead Food Service Worker is also responsible for sanitary conditions and may clean equipment, kitchen and serving areas.Important to this work are, several record keeping functions related to School District policy and procedures and the regulations of the National School Lunch Program. These include reviewing student applications for meal categories; accounting for lunch tickets purchased and used; accounting of the number of meals served and the monies collected, and preparing a weekly operations report. The employee performs related duties as required.
TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK (Illustrative Only) - Assembles sandwiches, chops vegetables; prepares salads and fruit dishes; portions prepared desserts into serving containers
- Portions and services food to children and adults in a cafeteria; May place packaged lunches on wire racks
- Counts the number of items prepared and sold; enters figures in a log; may receive money and make change
- Operates a compliant POS Computer System and Terminal
- Washes pots, pans, trays and other utensils; cleans preparation and/or service areas
- May sweep and/or mop floor of food service area. May remove trash from kitchen and cafeteria
- May prepare foods on a grill including but not limited to hamburgers and hot dogs; may bake simple desserts.
- Performs related work as required.
Qualifications - External Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: - Knowledge of basic food preparation techniques.
- Knowledge of the health and sanitation aspects of food handling and preparation.
- Ability to learn to use and care for equipment used in food preparation and service.
- Ability to perform simple mathematical calculations.
- Ability to maintain personal cleanliness.
- Ability to read, write and count accurately.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, associates, students and staff.
- Operate Compliant Point of Service and Point of Service Computer Terminal and/or roster.
Qualifications Minimum Requirements - High school diploma or equivalent (GED);
- Two years full-time, paid food service experience OR have successfully completed the following accredited college level coursework:
- Introduction to School Food Service; and
- ServeSafe Sanitation Program
