ADAPTIVE RIDING INSTRUCTOR
We are seeking a compassionate, skilled, and enthusiastic Riding Instructor to join our team at Inspiration Stables. The Riding Instructor will be responsible for delivering high-quality equine-assisted activities and therapies to individuals with physical, emotional, cognitive, and social challenges. The ideal candidate will have a strong horsemanship background, excellent teaching skills, and a passion for positively impacting our participants' lives.
Position Summary:
Riding Instructors at Inspiration Stables are responsible for designing and implementing engaging, safe, and effective equine-assisted therapeutic sessions for individuals with diverse needs and abilities. This position requires expertise in both horsemanship and adaptive teaching techniques to foster meaningful progress and enhance the overall well-being of program participants.
Responsibilities
- Conduct lessons for individuals of all ages with a variety of disabilities and needs.
- Develop and implement individualized lesson plans.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of participants, volunteers, and horses.
- Conduct assessments to determine participants' skills, progress, and areas for improvement.
- Provide instruction in basic horsemanship skills, including grooming, tacking, and riding techniques.
- Collaborate with The Program Director, Volunteer Coordinator, and families to enhance outcomes.
- Maintain detailed records of participant progress, session notes, and program evaluations
- Supervise and provide guidance to volunteers assisting with lessons and barn activities.
- Assist with the care and maintenance of program horses, including feeding, grooming, and monitoring health.
- Participate in ongoing professional development training sessions, and continuing education opportunities to stay current with best practices.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations, facility policies, and industry best practices.
- Promote a positive and inclusive environment that fosters growth, learning, and confidence in participants.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience coaching, training or instructing other individuals.
- Strong background in horsemanship including handling, training, and care.
- Ability to understand the physical, cognitive, and emotional needs of individuals with various disabilities and special needs
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with participants, caregivers, and interdisciplinary team members.
- Proficiency in documenting participant progress and maintaining detailed records.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and a passion for the field of equine-assisted therapy.
- Physical ability to lift, lead, and handle horses and assist participants as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in a riding center or similar setting.
- Experience in horse care and stable management.
Working Conditions:
- Work is performed in an outdoor environment, subject to varying weather conditions.
- Physical activity includes lifting, walking, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- A flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, may be required.
