In addition, you'll perform a variety of landscape maintenance including plant, lawn, bed, swale and irrigation care.Duties include ensuring work quality and adherence to established TriMet policies and procedures and performs a variety of tasks relative to the assigned areas of responsibility as required.You will also operate motor vehicles and a variety of construction and maintenance equipment, and perform related work as required.Working as a TriMet employee includes:• Top pay!• Excellent benefits including retirement, vacation, health insurance, and a transit pass.• Serving our community.• Union membership. Perform related duties as required.Serve as a good steward of TriMet by regularly utilizing our transit system to maintain a strong and current understanding of customers' experiences and of TriMet's product and service offerings. Essential Functions 1. Maintain landscape including but not limited to lawns, beds, swales, trees, shrubs, perennials, annuals, and wetland plantings. 2. Insure lawn and plant health by identifying plant diseases and harmful insects and treat accordingly.3. Repair damaged landscape beds, plants, and irrigation to original conditions.4. Maintain, prune, plant, transplant, fertilize, irrigate and hand water Trees, shrubs, perennials, and annuals.5. Safely operate and perform light maintenance on a variety of riding and handheld gas/electric power and non-powered tools in the execution of duties.6. Perform landscape and irrigation maintenance work as assigned as directed by the Assistant Manager, Landscape.7. Maintain and manage preventive maintenance. Provide work status reports. Inform Assistant Manager, Landscape of potential changes in work schedules, equipment or system malfunctions, and labor production concerns. Carry out all assigned work in a timely manner.8. Order and maintain parts and material inventory. Initiate purchase requisitions and document purchases in reports to the Assistant Manager, Landscape.9. Monitor maintenance activities to ensure compliance with work schedules, safety, quality, and standard operating procedures.10. Respond to emergencies as needed per WWA. Position Requirements A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent is required.Licensed Landscape and Irrigation Professional in the state of Oregon with good standing and ability to maintain annual requirements of training is preferred. Three (3) years of employment with a licensed commercial landscape and irrigation company in foreperson capacity or above are required. Licensed with the Department of Agriculture to safety perform spray duties is preferred. Selection Criteria 1. Demonstrated knowledge of standard practices, materials, and tools used in the planting and care of trees, plants, flowers, shrubs, and lawns.2. Demonstrated knowledge of landscaping design and maintenance including common names plant names, soil types, weed and pest control practices, and stages of growth in a variety of plants.3. Ability to understand and comply with the District's safety rules, standard operating procedures, and rules and regulations.4. Ability to maintain a safe work environment including within right-of-way areas.5. Ability to operate radio and telephone communication systems in compliance with regulations and procedures.6. Ability to work independently.7. Operations, services, and activities of a landscape maintenance program.8. Advanced methods and techniques of planting, transplanting, cultivating, pruning,and maintaining a variety of lawns, ground covers, plants, shrubs, hedges, and trees. Soil preparation and enrichment principles and techniques.9. Principles and practices of arboriculture, including species identification, planting,pruning, and maintenance methods and pesticide application.10. Advanced methods and equipment used in weed, pest and insect control and treating plant diseases.11. Advanced principles and practices used in the installation, maintenance and repair ofirrigation systems.12. Basic office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers andapplicable software applications.13. Principles and practices of record keeping.14. Occupational hazards and standard safety practices.15. Pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations.16. Ability to operate power and hand tools and assorted equipment.17. Ability to maintain acceptable performance, dependability, and attendance standards. Continued employment contingent upon successful completion of certification and recertification training.18. Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms.19. Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with employees, supervisors, and the general public.20. Ability to work in all types of weather conditions, walk and work on irregular surfaces, and bend and stoop for extended periods of time.21. Ability to lift up to 90 pounds, pass the physical examination required for the position, including a drug screen.22. Recognize common plants, plant diseases and insect pests in the Northwest.23. Read and interpret plans, maps, specifications, manuals, drawings, and blueprints.24.
